I decided to add a 550 style brake to my Spyder. The two people who advertise these for sale seem to be out of stock. Or have a 6 month backorder. So, I decided to make my own. This is pretty much a prototype here but I may make some more if I can figure out a way to make them with a reasonable amount of work.....several people seem interested in these brake handles for both Spyders and Speedsters.

Wanna trade? You've made a better-looking brake there than I bought for half a paycheck. I'm very impressed -- Brilliant job!
I would like to see how you chose to mount it. I went with an elevated perch on top of my tunnel; doesn't look to me like that's the same idea on the Spyder's floor. Does the mount grow out of the side of the shifter's box?

Copry and Jim, thanks for the good words...I actually like Dario's better, he made a great repro of a real one, where mine just sorta' looks like one. But on the other hand I think Dario is sold out, Bob T quoted me a 6 month lead time....so I spent 3 or 4 hours doing drawings in Autosketch, which I then asked a buddy with a CNC plasma cutter to punch out the rough parts. We then welded up the parts and cleaned them up a bit....about $2 worth of steel and a whole lot of fab time. We may make a dozen if there are people who want them. They will of course be cheaper than the competition, but if we offer them it will be "now", not in months, and the price will be lower, how much lower remains to be seen...

as to the mounting I used an existing hole in the Brandwood cable shifter to mount a 1/4" aluminum plate with a 1 7/8" aluminum stub on which I mounted the assembly. It is very solid so far....leverage is good, not in the way of the driver, passenger may not agree, but I don't have a passenger often, travel seems ok, might need a bit more travel on the cable pull ultimately, but will check a bit further. I want to install a couple more on some local cars before I commit to offer these for the group....the installation will differ car to car, I am also considering offering a Speedster model that would bolt to the tunnel or under the dash without the complexity of a tube mounting...would look similar to the 550 model but would mount on a plate...more to follow if that works out.....
