Welcome.

Tell us more about the car. Is McRae a replica builder/supplier in New Zealand? As one of our other members likes to ask, "Tell us about the engine....." He usually adds a whole lot more but I'll keep it simple. Give us the details!

Oh, Robert, you're so funny!  And how the hell heck are you?

That would be me my esteemed fellow member is referring to.  And yes, we need to know all the details you have- is it swingaxle or irs? drums or discs? all the engine details and specs you have , transaxle gearing (again, if you know it), and anything else you think pertinent- you know,

                                        EVERYTHING!!!

My apologies, but we really are an inquisitive bunch

Graham McRae used to make Subaru-powered 550 Spyders in New Zealand, apparently he made some Speedsters too.

He was an open wheel racer and designer and had success in Formula 5000.

He passed away 2 years ago.

I'm doing well Al, thanks.

Thanks for the reminder on the 550 Danny. I do recall the McRae 550 Spyder. I believe it was discussed here some time back. Great car if my memory serves me correctly.

And based on the quality build of the McRae 550 I can imagine the Speedster is just as well built.

Howdy fellas...Yes Graeme was a legend here not as big as Bruce McLaren or Denny Hulme. Mines the vw 1600 engine. There are some questions I can't answer. Yes he did some subaru engines but to my knowledge the speedster were all vw just like they were when it was essentially a parts bin car by porsche using all the bits from vw. My understanding is that except for the fiberglass shell it's how them made them in the 50's. I have some time off so will post a gallery soon. As it's so light it goes very well. When I got her the previous owner had not done some of the mechanical stuff and that really pissed me off but I now have her running sweet as a nut. My biggest issue is with the brakes and any info you boys have re adding new kevlar drums would be good. She is too fast for the brakes on her now. I'm keeping her as original as possible
