The Hustler is a 6 volt car. I'm having trouble finding the blinker relay
and other relays. I tried J bugs, and some local places. Apparently the
blinker box is rare, and expensive.

Here's source for inexpensive relays at Newark - $3.25 I'dh (i'd scrape off the Made in China)
Ouch, a used turn signal relay on SAMBA is $55! But JBugs has new for $12.95!

Just asking, but wouldn't it be easier to get a new wiper motor and gas gauge, and just convert to 12v?
I forgot to mention, the vin# came up 1967, but the wiring came up 6 volt.
Somehow this email doesn't want to go.
Stan - He has a true vintage vehicle. Plus 6v Porsche 356 engine with starter, generator, coil and all the bulbs.
So that square box is for more than just the turn signals! So forget the $12 one I linked to. Here's couple on ebay for under $20

It's vintage, it's really, really cool, and I'd love to own it.
... but a 6v electrical system is not the part that's going to be a deal breaker for anybody. Under all that "cool" (and I really mean no disrespect), it IS an Elan replica, built by an aftermarket company.
356As were 6v too, but I've never seen a Speedster replica wired for 6v.
If it's less costly to source 6v relays and such than convert to 12v, I sorta get that. But if it's to keep a replica electrical system "original"... I guess I don't.
Wolfgang you always come up with the goods.
As far as the 6 volt system, I guess they didn't want to
convert the 356 motor. Strange.
1967 was first year for the VW Beetle to use 12v - a '66 would have been 6v. 6v headlights really stink.
Only reason I mention the vintage status is it has a prominent racing history with Sam Posey - next owner may want to vintage race it and some upgrades (like to later disc brakes) may prevent it qualifying. '67 is a cut off year for certain events/cars.
I know about the 6 volt lights. On my 356, between my 65 year
old eyes and the 6 volt lights, I drive like an old woman.

The 12v lights on the bug aren't much better.
Because of its history, I want to keep it as original as possible.
On my 356, if you don't start it a certain way when it's hot, it
won't start, the 6 volt battery runs out of life.
Has anyone tried these LED lights? They don't draw any juice,
and supposedly very bright, and bolt right in.
A feq guys on here have talked about them. Maybe a couple have tried them out. I went full H4. I dont like the look of the LEDs.
I have seen LED front lights and unless the R&D is well done the light is not well focused. I went with H4's as well for that reason and the fact that the led needs to match a focused lenses in my opinion. There are some companies who claim to have made a LED that exactly matches the H4 Halogen pattern and fit into a focused h4 receptacle.
