I am not sure what these guys get out of this. Often you see a 1968 sl280 cabriolet for $28k or a split window corvette for $36k... Obviously bogus. What what do they gain? Fishing for dummys?

They get some someone who wants one more than they have the knowledge of their true value. They get the sucker on the hook and at a minimum they get a deposit from them and never ship the car. They purport to use an escrow company so that the deposit is guaranteed but in reality the escrow company is fake and the deposit is lost the moment the money is sent.

They're obviously getting something because they keep running the same ads.

They only need to find one dummy.

Many victims are elderly. My mother-in-law had dementia and we had to change her phone number three times because phone scammers kept tracking her down. She'd read bogus offers that came in the mail, call them, and in no time, she was getting (collect) calls from Jamaica and Nigeria and wiring them money. It took us a while to cut off all the ways they had of reaching her.

If the price in that ad had been $180,000, would you have spotted it as a scam right off?

The internet is a giant shopping mall for scammers. Be careful out there, kids.

As far as Craigslist listings, I was dealing a lot of 62 to 64 Impalas in the 90's due to the RAP industry everybody in Europe wanted one , WITH ANY DEAL WITH BIG PRICES ,,, always travel with a friend or two , take two cars and leave the cash or Cashiers check in the other vehicle , even if you have to rent two cars, I almost got killed in LA buying a 63 SS , picked up at LAX , and it went down hill from there . I guess they were expecting a Florida wimp ! Cause I'm still here ! ALSO I was involved in an attempted high jacking while selling a 59 El Camino I had listed on Craigslist , Put one in the hospital , court prosecuted ME !  Judge asked "why didn't I just give them the car instead of beating them to a pulp" , you can't win in America . I still look at the damn site everyday though ! it's addictive . If it sounds to good , then more than likely somethings wrong !
