I am trying to mount the steering column and it seems to not want to lock down. I may be missing a piece, but I am not sure. I also have play in the turn signal switch and cannot seem to tighten it either.

Below is a drawing of the setup. Any help would be greatly appreicated.

A thicker rubber piece is in order for the steering column, I had to do the same and found a ton of usable rubber stuff at Home Depot that worked out really well.

How is the little metal cleat/tab in the directional switch that contacts the column? You may need to put a small piece of thin flat aluminum between it and the coulum or use a longer screw to push that piece more firmly against the column.

Just a smidge of fine tuning needed is all. The old Beetle parts are worn and the new replacements have kinda loose tolerances; and I'm being kind here, some of them are just junk.

Luck!

I think the rubber piece is in tact. It is round on the bottom and sort of flat on the top. It may be that it is not tight enough at the base holding it and the rubber is not grabbing.

I will check the metal piece tonight. The screw looked kinf of roughed up, so this may be the issue.

Thanks
Todd
