Henry has a Speedster for sale that was bought as a coach in the mid '80s and never completed. In 1991 Henry got the car back and built it for him. So it is a pan car that is registered as a 1991. The car has Porsche badging, a 1600 or 1776 with dual carbs, etc. A very nice looking car with very low miles. He is looking for around $15000 US. Call Henry if you are interested. If you want more details from me, let me know.

For you ballet slipper wearing canuks, that is a roadster not a speedster.

It does say Roadster on it doesn't it! From just looking at it, it looks like it has the shorter Speedster windshield, but maybe I just haven't seen my car for so long I forgot...
Hey, those are fur-lined ballet slippers, and there's a beer bottle opener attached to the toes!
Looks like the weatherstripping for the doors is either not yet on that car or on the door and not the jamb. Anyone know where these are supposed to go? My car was repainted and they left off the weatherstripping...

Brian's question reminds me that Henry said there are a few things that need doing to this car, and that he hasn't gotten to them yet.
Brian:
From memory, the weather stripping goes on the door itself, plus some running along the sill.
I can check in more detail later?

Help. I would like to purchase the IM and have spoken with Henry. He feels there may be problems getting the car into the U.S.( perhaps he may have to dissamble) I live in New Jersey.
Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions.

I believe, in Henry's case, that the reason the engines and bodies are mated in the State of Washington is that they can then be titled as having been assembled in the U.S. Otherwise, as in this case, they are cars assembled in Canada and subject to all the import hassles in bring them into the States.
Scott, thanks. Henry indicated state and federal regs may be involved.
I have a copy of the title and it shows year/1991 and make/Replikit. However, the pan is a 1969 VW IRS. Could this help in some way?

I wouldn't be surprised if the importation of an older car is the same as a new one. That is, if the car was to come over in pieces you are simply bringing in pieces. If it were broken down into the engine and the body it would be a simple matter of reassembling it when you got it home. There probably web sites you could research, but I wouldn't have a clue as to where to start. You probably should also get some information from your department of motor vehicles to see what their take is on this. Check this site's registry and see if there is someone in your area that has a later model IM. They would be very helpful.

Ok why not buy the car from henry on one bill of sale and then buy the engine/drive train on another bill of sale.....maybe it isnt this simple, but it would seem possible to just "put the engine back in it when it gets to you" I'm winking right now.
A couple of months ago, my wife was pretty keen on old-style minis. In my on-line research, I found that if a car is 25 years old (or older) importation in to the US becomes a lot easier. the cars get an EPA exemption, and there are brokers who make a living getting cars to clear customs, etc. I realize that if this car is titled as an '84 it's only 20 years old, but the day is coming...

Does anyone know if this car is still on the market?
Jeff I was in to see Henry about a month ago, and the car had just sold. It was going to the US.

Ron, how come you didn't call me when you came to town?

You know what brothers are like....
I was on my way the visit the relatives. I just stopped in to drop off my engine lid.
I just got back from the Historic Motor Races at Mission Raceway. What a great day! All those old race cars from the 60s...neat. Met a guy with a white 82 IM. Nice car. Very nice 16" polished Fuchs, which looked great on the car. Guy was a bit of a 'know-it-all' (but he didn't really know much).

Jeff,
Sorry. Bought it about a month ago and it's now in my garage here in New Jersey.
Waiting for the State to figure out how to title it. I don't want to say to much because I don't want to jinx anything.
Keep looking. There is nothing better than looking out in the garage( no title/no registration yet)and seeing it there!
