Henry has a Speedster for sale that was bought as a coach in the mid '80s and never completed. In 1991 Henry got the car back and built it for him. So it is a pan car that is registered as a 1991. The car has Porsche badging, a 1600 or 1776 with dual carbs, etc. A very nice looking car with very low miles. He is looking for around $15000 US. Call Henry if you are interested. If you want more details from me, let me know.

I wouldn't be surprised if the importation of an older car is the same as a new one. That is, if the car was to come over in pieces you are simply bringing in pieces. If it were broken down into the engine and the body it would be a simple matter of reassembling it when you got it home. There probably web sites you could research, but I wouldn't have a clue as to where to start. You probably should also get some information from your department of motor vehicles to see what their take is on this. Check this site's registry and see if there is someone in your area that has a later model IM. They would be very helpful.
A couple of months ago, my wife was pretty keen on old-style minis. In my on-line research, I found that if a car is 25 years old (or older) importation in to the US becomes a lot easier. the cars get an EPA exemption, and there are brokers who make a living getting cars to clear customs, etc. I realize that if this car is titled as an '84 it's only 20 years old, but the day is coming...
I was on my way the visit the relatives. I just stopped in to drop off my engine lid.
I just got back from the Historic Motor Races at Mission Raceway. What a great day! All those old race cars from the 60s...neat. Met a guy with a white 82 IM. Nice car. Very nice 16" polished Fuchs, which looked great on the car. Guy was a bit of a 'know-it-all' (but he didn't really know much).
