I have an old speedster replica and want to change the gauges on it. I am thinking of the 914 gauges because they are cheaper than the other stuff I have seen. I was wondering if there is turn signal indicators on them and if so where? What are the differences between the gauges on the original 356? Am I going to missing anything?

I probably posted it before, but just in case.

You can substitute the internals from the 914 combination gauge and speedometer for those of the 356 gauges, or you can swap the 356 gauge faces and bezels onto the 914 gauge cases. Easy Peasy.

The result are a pair of beautiful 356 looking gauges with the more modern 12 volt VDO internals of those from a 914.

The 356 tach face, bezel and glass can be fitted to the gauge/case of one from a 924, but it'll be off by a bit. I think that the 356 spins up to 6,000, the 924 to 7,000. In the lower rev ranges, where shifting matters, the difference won't be too noticeable.

I did up the gauges for the Pre-A in this way and they look stock/sweet, and function perfectly.

The schematic for the 914 gauge pod is somewhere on the 914 World site, but this will get you started:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-914-914-6-technical-forum/501595-can-anyone-post-up-wiring-back-gauges-where-goes.html

The 356 gauge faces are the same as the 1967 912 gauge faces, the 356 gauges have fully chromed bezels, the 912 gauges have a two piece bezel chromed and black painted. You can find both the 356 gauge faces and 912 gauge faces for sale on many Porsche sites and forums, way better prices than Ebay.

Or ask these guys:

Your best bet is to check the postings and look for the ones by breakers and builders who are on the forum to provide info with a touch of salesmanship as well. Somewhere within their answer is a mention that they provide the item asked about/have something better/can help out if you contact them off line/just want to blow their own horn.

Luck,

TC
