Amazingly they fit and work as is.  Most don't still have the odo reset cable attached.  Just be sure to reset odo when at rest not while moving - destroys the plastic drive gear.  Not so sure on gas gauge - they used a different sender so might be off.

On most you can remove the emergency brake flasher and replace with an oil temp gauge.  DrClock replaced black bezel with chrome VDO ones.  If they have plastic lenses you can replace those with glass VDO ones too.

They're actually a simple fit and better quality than most of the newer copies, not the best for an accurate 356 dash reproduction look but pretty functional and a good value. Once you cut holes for the larger 914's, the smaller 356's no longer fit without some rework of the dash, just something to consider down the road.

The speedometer cable is a simpe connection with the VW cable and will read a few mph higher than actual with a stock diameter VW tire, but close.

Here's one sender (https://www2.cip1.com/ProductD...ductCode=VDO-221-012 ) that works with the 914 fuel guage, but check if you have the same tank.

And the temperature gauge will look good or better than the large park brake light anyway and would be a good upgrade.

That 914 tach is huge.  IM (Calif) did use 914 gauges for quite a few years. In a Speedster it leaves very little fiberglass support left.  If the gauges have to be professionally rebuilt - it cheaper to buy the new VDO gauges from Carey ast BECK/SE.  (Plus you get GPS accurate speedo!).  You can get new green faces and chrome bezels for the 914 gauges - but again its pushing cost up to the repros.
