Hi All,

Hey, the partially completed car I recently bought came with 914 seats. I've was going to throw them out when I noticed that if I sawed off the funny looking headrests that they can look pretty close to the 356 bucket seats. (No offense to 914 owners, heck I used to own a 914 myself, but I still think they have funny looking headrests.) Has anyone out there tried modifying 914 seats for their Speedster? The 914 seats I have would need to get new seat covers if I went this direction. Does anyone know of a source for seat covers for 914 seats? I see that Tweeks sells them for about $320-$600 a pair. That just seems like hiway robbery to me. Seems there should be 914 seat covers out there for cheaper.

Thanks

Tony

An off topic remark.... Looking above it appears many are using this site without becoming a Donating Registered Member. There is zero requirement to join, and I am happy to see you fellow owners using this site. It's just the best site out there for our Speedster Replicas!

Please don't take this as harassment.... just a friendly reminder that it cost money to maintain this site, and as you can see Theron does an outstanding job of it.

If this site didn't exist, where would you go for info, parts, and the joy of shating ownership of the coolest cars in the world? Support your bast reference guide and website... Become a member, JOIN US!

Just a bit of help.. If you're tall (like I am) I found that a pair of Hunsacker Plastic Racing seats with the extra foam work great and look great on the car. They are deep with great side support, come with places for a 5-point harness and best part.. cost $150 for two!!
Tony: Getting us back on track......I have 914 seats in my Speedster and chose (because of past traffic accidents and the need for the neck support) to keep the high backs. I noticed when putting them in (they fit into a CMC like a glove) that the head rest looked to be detachable (separate vinyl and screws) but I never pulled them off. If you remove them, I can't imagine a good local upholstery shop charging more than $200 each, even in leather - to re-upholster them - there's nothing to them, just pull the completed shell over the form and foam and you're done.

Thanks all, for your ideas on working with these 914 seats.

Gordon, I appreciate your concern for neck support. I was thinking about modifying the head rests on the 914 seats, to make them fit the look of the car better.

All this may be a mute point however as I was able to buy seats that Joe Paglino, listed in the classifieds here, that he was replacing. The seats that I am getting from him, are more of what I wanted in the first place. Since I was able to get such a great deal from Joe, I want to pass his generousity on, if anyone is interested in a pair of 914 seats in need of re-upholstering I am willing to give them away to anyone who is willing to either pick them up or pay for shipping from Santa Rosa, California. First person that tells me they want them, gets them.

thanks

Tony

P.S. Jim, I'll donate to the site today. This place is a great find.
