Very period-correct resto, imho.
Here it is. "Discovered as a bare, sun-cooked body in the high desert of California, it has undergone a full restoration over the past year and is now arguably one of the best examples in the world today."

Needs a monster type 4 engine for some tire frying go power. The monster 2.8L T4 engine I had in my Puma would fry the tires as long as you wanted with no end if the go pedal was depressed. The stock 1600 doesn't do this cool ride justice.
Yup.
A monster type 4, disk brakes, at least on the front, and A/C (because the sliding windows only up front kind-a suck) would go a long way to making this much more fun to tour with.
Still, someone did a fabulous job of bringing this box back from the dead and deserves a tip of the hat.
I’ll admit that I’ve always loved this design. The closest I came to it was a 1985 Plymouth Voyager. Nice, and more practical, but totally not the same.
I have always liked these. I seem to recall seeing one at Carlise.
I didn't realize so few were built.

With that setup I think you'd be obliged to go the whole way & pack it with four little people decked out more or less like
I always liked the Phoenix "box"- plans were in the Popular Mechanics magazine and it could be built "in less than 40 hours" for $2500 plus a VW bus/van! It's built using fiberglass-covered Foam boards and is 500 # lighter than the donor vehicle.
