Our little car, more at home on little roads, is teaching us a little about ourselves and a little about this pretty state of ours.

You don't really need to be jetting off to distant lands to get away from what ails you. No need to check in two hours before departure or to be herded through security, barefoot, with your arms in the air. You don't need a boarding pass or a carry-on. Your tray tables don't need to be in the fully upright position.

A loaf of bread, a jug of wine, the sky above, someone you love beside you, and perhaps a road you've never been down before.

What more do you really need?

Here you go, Carl:

http://sharpehill.com  Absolutely amazing dining/wine experience, if a bit expensive (you get what you pay for, for sure).

Plus, there's a terrific cafe/restaurant 15 minutes away, the "Vanilla Bean".  I can ride there and back on my bicycle (30 miles each way) and they have a Gluten Free menu.....

Either way (Speedster or bike) they are in an absolutely beautiful, albeit way eastern, part of Connecticut.

Gordon, hope you're back on the road soon.

We're finding the Speedy the perfect car for exploring California's 'other' wine country - the Sierra foothills east of the Central Valley. Roads here are narrow and twisty. Most were laid out and graded over a hundred years ago.

In another car, I might be bombing along flat out, but something about the Speedy (maybe the suspension) has us slowing down to smell the roses.

It occurs to me these are much like the secondary roads in Germany where, in the fifties, most driving was done, before three quarters of the current autobahns had been built. Today, with the autobahns and motorways, any European performance car has to be built to cruise at 130 mph.

But on roads like these, on a sunny spring day, I'll take the Speedster.
