Thanks guys,

I appreciate the warm welcome from everyone Leon, LR, and Jim. Feel the collecting madness setting in. I am difinatly going to be using this car for some cruises and with the roll up windows my right seater will put up with longer cruises, OC/La easy to get to from San Diego and the Hotel Del is about 4 miles from my house (I live above the airport in Mission Hills. Pics are promised soon.
Dennis, I would like to share the joy/pain of our soon to be DMV sagas. I talked to a shop listed under the shops tab Dooleys Auto and smog, its actually a different name and Dooley is the carb builder at the shop. The smog tech I talked to said registering out of state kit cars can be tricky depending on how the registration reads from the other state.

Cheers
Dave

Dave:

Glad you're getting into this "Hobby" (Some may call it a sickness....What do they know??). We've all become familiar with Joe's car, but you're getting a car from New Jersey, so just remember what that means:

Take good care of it or we send "Paulie Walnuts" and his friends out there for a "visit"...

Plan on making it to Morro Bay next year or any of the SoCal Speedster gatherings coming up (watch under "Events") - The group gatherings we hold are not to be missed, no matter where they are!

Larry's note prompted me to reply so blame Larry - GEICO, Oh NO! I absolutely hate them - worse of all insurance companies (kind of like having none when it comes to a claim). Several bad experience over years with them --- and not one good to offset the bad. Also - real danger in turning keys over the wife and 25 year old daughter - you may never see the car or them again!
Thanks all,

I am not tied to Geico at all but been lucky with them so far. A modern VW sob story where I ended up $5,000 richer, car repaired back to excelent condition but with a salvaged title. That is a story for another time.
They tell me they have a classic car section with stated value so I will get a cost from them along with the major players.
I was surprised that Geico offered liability or classic car protection at all.

There is a real danger that I might become a right seater too. My better half and I have been together since we were teens and while I had a MGA she had a MGB, believe me this girl is a driver!

Cheers

Congrats on the new (to you) machine. Being an IM, I will suppose it is one fine deal. I am sorry to see a potential East Coast cruiser going out to where there are already way too many Speedsters, but I know if you hook up w/ MUSBJIM, all will be well. It would seem that as far as east coast touring is concerned, whatever cars are really "local", they do not hit the SOC, and don;t go for the socialization that seems a weekly event out in sunny SoCal. We have not yet reached critical mass, at least around the DC Baltimore area -- too bad for us, but good for you. Enjoy the madness!!

Dave, congrats on the new "baby". I got mine on the west coast and had it shipped east in Jan. So far, it's the only one around here,at least from what I've seen. Who did you get to ship it ? and let us know how that experience goes.

This site is the hot set-up for working out any "bugs" that may arise . Most of these guys have forgotten more than I will ever know about these cars and are very willing to share their knowledge with anyone. Happy motoring! Al
