I have looked at several replica speedsters over the past few years but never could find one in the condition I was looking for - Drivable but needs work. Well, I found one a few months ago and after some minor repairs it’s on the road hopefully for the summer (still need to find a minor brake fluid leak). Anyway just wanted to say hi and see if anyone is in the area and has some words of wisdom to pass on.

Welcome to the Madness fellow Metro-Detroiter! I'm in Dearborn and have a 2010 Beck Speedster. We're a small bunch, but growing.
On July 27th, I''ll be hosting the 2nd Annual Speedster Telegraph Cruise & BBQ (I live only a couple of blocks away from Telegraph, I assume that you're pretty close to Woodward, as well). You will be most welcome.
Last year, we had folks from Brooklyn, Sterling Heights, Ann Arbor, Grosse Pointe, and Dearborn.
I expect we might add one from Bloomfield Hills this year, as well, and, hopefully Ferndale :-)
The gentleman from Grosse Pointe (buckwheat on this board) is our resident air-cooled/356 mechanic. He keeps the local 356 club rolling and owns a VS himself.
I'll be at his house on Monday to work on a trans fluid leak that I have. Send me a dialog (upper right hand corner) and i can give you my contact info and the contact info for the guy in Grosse Pointe.
Welcome Ferndale58, or as we say in the "D", Fashionable Ferndale. I'm in Bloomfield and have an IM roadster. If you need any advice, Tom Blankinship is your man. A great resource, and a wealth of info. Have to make Tom's cruise--told me personally he was providing riders for all cars from the Toy Chest.
I keep hearing about a VW parts store in troy that should have everything I need, problem is no one knows the name or address - have any of you heard of this place or a good local source for parts?
With that being said, if you know the VW part reference year, you can get most stuff locally. The big dog in VW parts is Mid-America in IL. http://www.mamotorworkstv.com/...p;utm_campaign=vtest
You might be thinking about this place in Auburn Hills:
Their prices tend to be high but they are sort of local.
