A WEIRD TALE . . .

OK, so a buddy of mine is a big name Baptist Minister on Cape Cod and goes all over the country and the Caribean Islands doing sermons and that crap. I'm more of a Resurrectionist at best, but I LOVE to argue scripture so we get on like gang busters, AND he owns a '55 European VW sun roof sedan, a '67 VW RAT and a '63 double-door VW van.

Anyway he's doin' a gust spot at a funeral on the North Shore and the guy who's Mother died is So impressed with the eulogy that he . . . . get this . . . offers The Rev his entire building full of VW parts, tools, and new old stock ? ! ? ! ? ! ? ! ? A former thriving Aircooled VW repair shop, long closed down.

Of course it isn't as cool as all that, the business has been derelict for ten years and the building is rotting away, the roof fell in and tore a hole through the atic and secong floor and crashed into the work bay . . . BUT IT"S ALL FREE ! ! ! !

So the gang is all over it like pirates on a French Frigate:

TC, you might be surprised at what those filing cabinets are worth if they are oak and are stand alone...hard to tell for certain from the photos....I know a guy in your back yard that is a good buyer for things like oak filing cabinets.....and all other matter of true antiques....not car parts though....let me know if you want as phone number....when i was living in NH I picked a basement in Buzzard's Bay of some really nice stuff (antiques) as well as a barn just outside of Groton, so there are more treasure troves about than one might believe

"boat anchors"

You know, THAT'S the very best part of all! We went up on Friday and Saturday and just made scrap metal runs, hit the yard and behind the building. Found some cars (the remains of a Model T) and a lot more "boat anchors" in the tall grass and briars.

Steel/iron is $100 a ton here and aluminum/mag is $5 a pound. The starters and gen/alt items are $5 to $15 each. Plus the copper and such which fluctuates almost hourly. As we walk through the place kinda taking inventory in our heads, we grab stuff and throw it into the trucks or on the trailers. It's like picking up money everywhere we look, and we haven't touched the parts or rummaged through anything at all as yet. We average about $150 per "load" so with three full size trucks and two trailers, that's five in all, times two days and two trips a day. We're at like $3000 and counting.

Kinda cool, but it's only a weekend thing, real life intrudes.
