E10 and E15 are frauds!

On premium 100% gasoline, my daily driver (a 2009 Volvo S80 sedan) gets 29 mpg on the highway. So using easy math, 290 miles burns 10 gallons of good old petro gas.

On premium E10, my mileage drops to 25. I will burn 11.6 gallons of E10 to travel the same 290 miles.

So is having 10% ethanol blended into my gas actually saving gas?

NO!

That 11.6 gallons of E10 contains 10.44 gallons of gas and 1.16 gallons of ethanol.

So the government's "gas savings" measure is burning MORE gas.

Now go read about what it takes to grow the corn that the US is turning into fuel. Corn is THE most water intensive crop a farmer can grow. Do we REALLY have water to waste? And how much petroleum based fuel was burned in the process?

Sorry for the rant, but ANY ethanol blend is a COMPLETE fraud!

This makes my head hurt -

1. The energy content of ethanol is about 30-35% less (per volume) than gasoline, yet

2. E15 delivers increased horsepower and performance without any negative side effects, mileage loss or engine damage.

Sounds like some BS there.  So do tree huggers like water/fertilizer sapping corn based ethanol? Price of Grits sure went up.  If it can compete without federal subsidies let it compete on its own power.  Seems the E85 Flexfuel engines get worse gas mileage all around due to design to accommodate ethanol.
