AAC Headlight Grilles - Product Review

Looks great.  I saw a number of speedster with the headlamp grills, but they weren't able to use the glass lens behind.  But it appears as though you were able to keep the glass lens behind, is this correct?

These are designed to fit over the glass.  The original Porsche style are not, although some people leave the glass.  I have the original type and someday will try to vacuum form plastic to fit on the back side.

I like the formed stainless steel ones - the prior jail bar ones I saw were cast and easily broken.  Plus they ( believe) required the glass be tossed. The basket weave ones look like they should be used for straining spaghetti.

I like those, they look well built.  I  have the spaghetti  sieve. 

Glass remains in place. They are one piece except for the clip at the top that is tack welded.

Like them or not, they are well made and fit really well.

I looked for ones that didn't require removing the headlight glass, and these made the most sense. The spaghetti strainer type from AAC also don't require the removal of the glass.

We'll see how they hold up!

I was thinking that a Product Review section might be helpful, particularly to guys looking to undertake a project of some kind.

 I also just ordered a set from ACC. I currently have mesh style but mine look kind of funny because the mesh is diagonal instead of horizontal and vertical which makes them look like something my wife uses in the kitchen for straining spaghetti!  The original 50s speedsters I saw on Monterey last week that had headlight grills had the ones like ACC is selling, but I think that they didn’t have glass under them however I didn’t look real close. 

I noticed that the ones with the mesh running horizontal and vertical were somehow more pleasing and authentic looking as well. But that is in the eye of the beholder.

According to Der White's webpage, the early 356A grilles were like the ones I have, the jail bar type. They were a factory option at about $23.00.

The spaghetti strainer type, with the diagonal mesh, were a late 356A option at about the same price. 

Evidently the spaghetti strainer type with the vertical/horizontal mesh were an aftermarket item.
