Another nutty question from Carlos -
AC compressor. Most ac compressor run off a belt off the fly wheel. has anyone ever seen an automotive ac compressor that is electric?
In my case I hope to move the ac compressor to the frunk, ear the evaporator and dryer, shorter lines and keeps the engine compartment clean.
Any info?

Never heard of such a rig but I like your thinking. These big DC motors are expensive new but a motor from an old air compressor or a treadmill would work; treadmills are free on craigslist if you search around for a couple weeks. Those motors make about 2-3 hp and weigh about 40 pounds; the potentiometer comes with it and I think works with the high-amp 12/24 V DC, which is what the motor likes. You could potentially drive the compressor directly with this at a fixed rpm. Still, all this kit is going to eat up your front storage space. And I'd make sure my alternator could keep up with the load as well.
Yep, thanks. I saw that . Looks a tad costly. Prius / Toyota has one via ebay in the $200 range.
And yes , space is a concern. But I do have an area next to the battery up front that should fit.
Tesla, Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf have them, too, for about $200 bucks:

OK but that Beetle is a pretty clean install. Just saying.
As I scratch this surface further, it does not seem reasonable for our car because of the large amperage drain to use them. Here is an article that sums up 'why not' by Vintage Air.
