Well my accelerator cable came loose again today. I was on the freeway this time! Is there any way to keep that thing from coming off? I'm thinking maybe there is a fitting that can bolt on behind the pedal or something. Right now there is just a bent metal bit that I have to wiggle through a hole on the accelerator pedal. A bit awkward to do on the freeway shoulder!

Any ideas?

Brandon, There are a few different "S" ends on accelerator cable pedal ends ...some are more of a lazy "S" than others depending on the year of the chassis....if you are able to reattach the "S" end onto the pedal without loosening the pedal assembly bolts , you have the wrong cable or it is about to break....with a new cable you can just add a bit of a twist to the "S" to make it a closer radius "S" and it will stay on...

Rather than use an accelerator cable with the "S"-shaped bracket, try using the "O"-fitting with a small nut & bolt. EMPI sells a universal throttle cable for off road dune buggies which has BOTH adapters mounted on either end. You basically cut off the end you don't want to use. Retail cost: a measly $6.95 And being multiple strands, it last alot longer than the single solid cables.
I replaced my 's' throttle cable with a bus cable, which has an '0' ring at the end. I also bought a roller pedal (I replaced the cheap roller with a roller blade wheel). I bolted the cable to the pedal. Go to your nearest VW store and buy a bus cable. the only minus is that you have to cut the cable, but then again, who makes a cable to fit a 356 replica without cutting?

i made one a year ago from a length of steel cable. I made a loop at the pedal end by using a crimper to hold the loop and putting a (small) bolt> 1/4" nylon sleve>bolt>washer>thur a hole ing the flange under the pedal>washer>locknut>bolt with loctite.Has worked well and I hope it continues as assembleing all that small crap with these arthritic hands while most of my upper body is crammed into the foot well and the trouble light burning me periodically is not much fun. Can't talk my bride into helping me much since that unfortunate 2x4 upside the head incident.
