Anybody know the length of the accelerator cable on a VS? I've caught the dreaded "oh well, since I have the car apart I might as well replace (insert 30 or so items in this space" disease.

I think the general consensus is to install a new one of stock VW size and then cut off what is not needed. Even from one VS to another a different length might be needed depending on carb linkage etc. An easy way to cut the cable nicely is to put masking tape around it and slice it off with a dremel tool. On a hard surface one good whack with a sharp chisel does well but it's hard to find an anvil in the engine compartment.
Yeah, David. I sometimes forget that there can be significant variations in length from one car to another. I'm running dual Dells with CB Performance linkage. My length requirement would clearly be different from someone running a single carb.
The set up shouldn't need more length than a standard beetle cable provides.
Should have thought this through before posting.
Thanks.

True, but if we all did that we would never get these dramatic thread drifts now, would we?
HA!
I was able to clean with sandpaper where I planned to cut accel cable. I appied solder resin and soldered the cable stands there so that when I cut (sharp chisel on a piece of iron) it didn't un braid. I then used one of the dune buggy ends that use hex screws to grip cable.
I was going to recommend a swageless stud terminal but those things are about $25.00. A swage stud terminal is only about $7.00 depending on size. That's obviously the way to go if you have the crimping tool or some other way to properly crimp it. The benefit to the swageless stud terminal is you could reuse it every time you break your clutch cable.
