I think the general consensus is to install a new one of stock VW size and then cut off what is not needed. Even from one VS to another a different length might be needed depending on carb linkage etc. An easy way to cut the cable nicely is to put masking tape around it and slice it off with a dremel tool. On a hard surface one good whack with a sharp chisel does well but it's hard to find an anvil in the engine compartment.

 

I was going to recommend a swageless stud terminal but those things are about $25.00. A swage stud terminal is only about $7.00 depending on size. That's obviously the way to go if you have the crimping tool or some other way to properly crimp it. The benefit to the swageless stud terminal is you could reuse it every time you break your clutch cable.
