Are you going low, no bumpers? No spears.
Bumpers, standard height? Spears.

It lends a certain elegance to cars with bumpers, but looks kind of out of place on an outlaw. My two cents.
(Edit -- Nucklehead, you totally beat me to the punch!)

Still suffering from jet lag, Cory?
Welcome home, buddy.

Not! Just something to collect wax and breakup the lines....IMHO.
I'm not exactly impartial, but I've grown to prefer them without.
YES er.....not yelling....

hi brian, love your car,i like the trim,i am 64 years old ,or young,a little bit oldfashioned maybe, also live in the famous decodistrict,on the other hand, where did you get this perfect sparetire, looking for one like that, all the best, enjoy your ride, herbert hofer.
Carrera mirrors.
Fiberglass shells usually painted body color. Mounted on leather gaskets. Placed out on fenders so you see the mirrors through the windshield (not through the side-curtains). Cosmetically, I think they look great - and the bonus is that they work really well.

Yes to the mirrors. I got to drive the "Teal Deal" when I was in LA and you can see really well from those mirrors. John who makes them? Henry asked me to find out because I need them fr my car.
Trim? Like John said, less is more.......

John...I love the looks of your car!!!
Herbert... the spare is a "space saver" tire from a late 90's or early 2000's full size GM car mounted on a standard 69 VW rim.
These responses confirm my original opinion; no additional trim.
Additional question: baby moons or no hub caps at all (as pictured)?

Brian , I take it we'll see you and your speedster at Carlisle 2010 ?
I guess you ruled out a continental kit like on the old port hole T-Birds.
speaking of continental kits.....i saw this driving down the street last summer....had to take a picture....interesting at best
Alan...I certainly hope so. It all depends on how much trouble I have with registration. I'll have to tow it to Morristown for an initial safety inspection (they no longer come to the house for these). After I receive that approval, I have to go to Trenton and try for final registration. The major obstacles will be that (1)There isn't any manufacturers certificate for the body. It came from a now defunct Mexican manufacturer via three previous owners that all gave up on building the car. This will be the first registration for the completed car. (2) The registration/bill of sale that I have for the '69 VW is from Texas and is very old and in very poor condition.
My original intent was to obtain a "special interest" NJ registration for it; the same as my Healey replica. That would preclude a need for future inspections. However, NJ has changed their rules, and no longer recognizes replicas as "special intrest".
I'm hoping that by early spring, NJ adopts the SEMA model for replicas, but they have been sitting on the legislation for about a year and a half.

As you can see, I still have mine "ON". (without bumpers)

George - John Steele (JPS) sourced the fiberglass shells for the GT Mirrors (not certain from where). About 5 years ago, when I was building my second JPS Speedster (a Carrera GT tribute), I had a template made for the actual "shape" of the mirror inserts. The glass guy cuts mirrors to fit the shell's opening. And, we actually had a convex right-side mirror cut from a salvaged truck mirror.
No, the mirrors are not electric. You just set 'em up once (obviously takes two people to do it - one in the car, one out) and they don't move, because the mirror is "inside" the shell.
Like I said earlier, they work great. The "looking cool" part is a nice bonus.

Thanx to Scott
The aluminum shells from GTWerks are lovely, but hella expensive compared to the fiberglass versions.
And, if you're going to paint them body color anyway...

no trim cause your not useing bumpers
Some speedsters get pretty fancy, personally, I dislike trim, script, and decals.
Leader and Baumer have the right idea. "Less is more."
Oh ya - and badges...
If one wants side trim, get the wide ones like IM has been using, not the skinny ones...

Quality of side trim varies greatly too. Recall my '89 CMC kit came with a roll (actually 2) of self stick chromed plastic generic door nick stuff. I've seen the side trim from T1 VW Bug modified and used - its thin hollow aluminum. I have set I got several years ago from DrClock that is extruded solid aluminum with integrated mounting bolts (similiar to original) - not sure which manfacture its from. It seems narrow compared to the VW stuff.
I totally agree with Cory here... if your going with the bumpers then go with the molding too! if you decide to keep it with the neff bars then oust the trim Bro!
Wolfgang, what you have sounds like what I got from IM.
I have a roll of the CMC stuff if anyone wants it.

Whats behind you is not important.
Hey Pete! Haven't seen you on here in a while.
Yeah, and when he does show up he posts a cryptic message.
I think I heard that line in "Cannonball Run" from the Italian driver as he tore off his mirror. A true statement as long as it ain't the POlice.
