Being in the supply chain business for a while, the low prices are possible because as mentioned here, the same item from China might be sold under many brands, so they make tons of this equipment. So the factory price is really cheap.

In the old days, the supply chain was: factory-agent-wholesaler/importer- retail- customer and every step of the way each party needs to make profit. In the old day the rule of thumb was the retail price divided by 4 is the factory cost.

However, nowadays especially in Amazon Market Place,  the supply chain might be: factory-seller (for a particular brand in China)- customer. There is a lot less layer that needs to make profit. You might notice when you make a purchase at Amazon Market Place, the item will come directly from China to you.

Still it is amazing how cheap an item cost compared to the cost of food here, that is the reason for a long time the inflation rate for consumer goods in this country is low as items are getting off shored to cheaper producer countries causing the retail price to be cheap for consumer for a long time. But now we are close to the bottom of cheap item situation unless quality is not a concern.

Old saying:  "They don't build 'em like they use to, ..., and it's a darn good thing."  TheType 1 engine was designed in 1945.  It changed a bit over the years, but the location of the oil cooler did not.  If I had a type 1 engine, it would be nice to last over 50,000 miles, but I would not find it abnormal if it did not.  Nor would I fault the builder of the engine or the previous owner.  Today's cars are magnificent.  You can drive a Honda Civic for over 200,000 miles without getting the engine overhauled.  A type 1 engine, 50,000 to 100,000.  If you want reliable and better performance, swap in a Subaru boxer.  Any of the replica builders can do it.

My wife made me one of those years ago.  It has a non-slip lining that looks suspiciously like tool drawer liner.  It's basically a big donut made of Vinyl upholstery material, so you open the engine cover and flip it over the raised cover, which then holds it in place.  Works like a charm.

I think that the two tool pockets in James' cover make a lot of sense.

Hello again, yes, that is the same cover as the eBay one posted! They have elastic clips that go in the fender edge. After dropping a wrench and nicking done paint, I bust this out now. Nobody mentioned the “original style” air cleaners, those are there to replace the aluminum ones in the first picture. They were a bear to adapt, but I like the look. As for 130hp, I requested that so it could emulate the actual Carrera hp in the 550, which was…130. This Beck has been great, it has around 32k miles on it now. Aloha from Oahu!
