Aftermarket 356 piston/cylinder kits | 356 Speedster, 550 Spyder, Replica, Automotive Community

I have a n old 356 C motor that I rebuilt about 20 years ago. Back then you could get

a big bore kit for about $250.00. It's help up O.K., but fouls a plug every now and then,

a burns a quart of oil every 1000 miles. I feel I should bite the bullet and give it a little

freshening up. I guess the prices have changed a little in the last 2 decades. The question

is, what aftermarket piston and cyl. kits are the best?

Time for new rings and valve job? AA Pistons are regarded well in VW community for a fairly reasonable price.

I had the heads done. I have never had much luck doing ring jobs, the rings

never seem to seat perfectly. I've tried different hones and it doesn't seem

to matter. I made a small miscalculation in the amount of time that I bought

that $250.00 big bore set. It was the early seventies when I made the purchase.

I guess I'm revealing my age.
