As Paul and I prepare event logistics, arrangements, and frivolities, etc., we want to start collecting committements from folks planning to attend the event. This list of those attending will go on the soon-to-be revealed SOC Knotts '05 web page. Our goal this year is 100 Porsches. With over 10K "owners" members registered to date, 100 cars seems like a drop in the bucket.

In addition, if you attended the show in April, we'd like you to post a recall of a memorable moment. We will transfer these directly to the main SOC event site, hopefully, to inspire those on the fence about taking to the road in the interest kitcar appreciation.

Thanks in advance for your enthusiam and participation.

Mike & Paul
An Alphonso Bidoia (SP?) award or badge for the guy with the most speeding tickets to the show..."Like hell you don gotta show me no stinkin' batchs!" Are there any 101st banditios left?

I think the look on JimBobs face when we took an inside lane opportunity on a brand 'X' replicar stays with me...although when Dale and I made the big sweeping left turn off Beach Ave to head out onto the freeway home, both cars goin' sort of fast...way cool!
...and then there was Jodie
I only wish I would have been able to make the run down PCH with all the guys. It sure would be nice to set up some planed morning and night runs next year. Moreover, we have to have someone make the Speedsters West movie!

I for one would like to see the club make a new badge for the event.

Bill Drayer, Sometime pick-up a "Los Angeles" Magazine and check out the display ads and the classified ads in the back of the mag. You may be astonsihed at the number of plastic sturgeons that specialize in breast enhancement and advertise their (mostly in Beverly Hills and Century City but a few in The Valley and Orange County, too. Some of them actually have licences to practice, the others are just hobbyists working out of their garages.

How about a cool, cast belt buckle with a Speedster on it and "Speedsters at Knott's - 2005" or something like that? I know a guy in Mass. who produces buckles like that (any artwork you want) and is about the last producer left of car club plaques (the ones that bolt onto your bumper, for the Street Rod crowd).

We could do another one for Carlisle, and some special ones for the guys who make BOTH shows! (what a collector's item!)

Gordon,

I've been trying to breathe some life into the 'club badge' discussion.

In terms of coming up with an event badge, it might be interesting to look at what the ADAC, does with their designs. They have the iron eagle image as their moniker, and there are badges for just the ADAC with that image, and then they do rally badges for their numerous regional get-togethers. Each of these badges are unique to the events they represent, but all have the club's iron eagle somewhere on the badge.

So, if we adopt that idea, the first item of design would be the club's "iron eagle." Then we could set out to come up with something relevant to Knotts and the AHA.

Discuss amongst yourselves...

Bill,

I like the idea of berries representing Knotts for an element of the event design.

For the club image, we probably need a larger discussion on "do we want one moniker for both club branches, or one for spyderowners.com and one for speedsterowners.com?"

Because this has been tried unsuccessfully before, and for the expense, and since April is right around the corner, I'm leaning toward one club logo that is more Porsche Heritage/Custom-built in nature, rather than an outline of a spyder, or speedster. Besides, if we pick a common moniker, then make sure that moniker is on whatever badge design we do for each of these events, we can play with several car-outline designs over the course of several events.

Again, I'm just throwing out it. It would be nice to get something going with this event that can be continued for future shows.

Talk it up.

I look on Ebay for badges and for some reason I can never find something I really want...........maybe thats the problem the badges you see meant something special usually to participants in an event from the past. A badge from something I attended may be exactly what I need.
Paul and Mike,

Here's a little feedback on the topics you posted.

1. Badge. Yes! I like the idea of berries being incorporated. A round badge with Knott's 2005, SOC, and maybe a "likeness" of the Porsche shield/logo. I am sure there are better ideas... just my 2 cents.

2. Count me and possibly Gayla in for 2005.

3. Best memory? Somewhere between Gordon and Chris, John, Bruce, Gary, Eddie and about half a dozen more calling as I left a tornado in my wake at OKC....... to watching Dale and Paul hammering their Speedsters in a race to the entrance ramp as we departed Sunday afternoon.., somewhere in between those events there is a single best memory. I can tell you that there are so many special ones that it will take some thought before I can decide. For now... something that John Leader said Saturday evening on a walk after dinner remains a significant thing in life.. I will send you two my pick when we (Gayla & I) finish up the 2d half, of a two part vacation).

4. A cruise sounds great. And, how about all owners, including locals, meeting at the Hotel Sat Morning and then we drive to Knott's enmass? I know, a biker thing.. but, I think it might be a neat statement, a photo op, and something memorable. I just saw a Japanese Roadster/Speedster Club Meeting Pic Layout that was very nice. I may send a URL or you all to look at the Pics for ideas.

ADAC is the German equivalent of the AAA in the US or the AA or RAC in the UK.

They offer similer services; roadside rescue, insurance, etc. as well as doing a lot of their own research into crash testing and car safety independently of the OEM's.

Hi Guys,
Mike & I have been getting undeway with some promo ideas and such and as Steve O. stated badges have more meaning when you've been a participant in the event... So, with that in mind we are going to want to see a show of hands soon, "How many of you will be attending, etc, etc, etc..."

We'll need direct emails from you rather than trying to sift and count through the thread when the time comes...

One of the interesting things about badges is the quality of the design expressed over the years. The maker's art is as varied as the roads traversed! I'm a sucker for cool badges and try to find badges from the event years my cars may have been able to participate ...

We are working on something specific for the event and at the same time, universal enough to be representative of S.O.C. in or on other venues. Did I say that right?
Paul and all,

It was 27, foggy and black ice out but unlike our Paul, I didn't take the tub out. But now it is sunny and about 45, hmmmm!

Getting to thinking about sunny balmy Buena Park and all those tubbies and Jodi lookalikes the last couple of days. Any news on Knotts yet? Realize it is a little early to be thinking about those things, but hey, it is getting to be winter and we need something to keep the fires burning.

Happy Holidays, All!

I will have info. on Knotts '05 up shortly. Room rates are being negotiated, logo clothing has been ordered, and various event logistics and agenda items are in final planning stages. Look for an event information web page in the next week or so.

Happy New Year!

There certainly will be room and we will be pleased to see your smiling face. The good deal for you is that when a passenger here you still get to sit in the right seat just like home. The difficulty will be getting one of us to let you drive one of these left hand drive cars. I have several Brit. friends and every time they return here from the UK they start driving strangely until they become readjusted to driving on the correct side of the road.

Looking forward to meeting you

Troy
Simon!

If you want to do Carlisle, and would be willing to fly into Boston (yucky airport, but it's all we've got) then you'd be welcome to stay at our place in Eastern Rhode Island before making the trek South to Carlisle. Another option would be to fly in to Philadelphia or Pittsburgh and someone could pick you up there for 'right-seat ballast'.
