so you think you know air cooled?  i'll bet not. if anybody here has ever heard of an engine where the cranck shaft does not crank, but is instead stationary, and the rest of the engibe rotates, i'll eat my distributor.

Correct Sir; many WWI fighter planes had such an engine and ran at a constant rpm, the pilot controlled the speed of the engine with a kill button.

Rotary engine indeed and sometimes confused with the radial engine. The rotary engined planes did a sharp turn really well in one direction. The rotating mass of the engine was terrific.
