Jeff, I have thought of using bags on my VS. I have a full set of bags at home, but nothing else. I have used airshocks with a swithc and a pump under the rear seat of a VW Squareback in the past and that perfectly fine. Just hit the switch and you can raise or lower the car at any speed. Bad thing is, this set up works slow.

I've got the air shocks on the rear of my IM. The roads up here are so crappy that I wanted to be able to raise the car and stiffen the suspension so I wouldn't bottom out.

They seem to work fine. Don't know that it would be a "performance" upgrade but for the few hundred miles I put on a year around town its fine. 40 kms of gravel road to get out of here....

I bought them new off Ebay for about $30 or so...

I recall I did have the shocks (both the old ones and the air ones)scraping and actually the boots from the axles ripped up from touching the shocks when compressed.

So I fabricated two brackets that moved the top of the shocks forward about an inch or so I think. This put the shocks on a slightly different angle and provide the necessary clearance. This bracket was made of 1/4 plate and bolted to the upper shock mount with another hole and welded on nut ...it moved the mount out 1/4 inch and forward about an inch. Wasn't hard to do and worked like a charm.

You may look at doing something like that...
