JPS installs a fairly elaborate alarm system as part of his radio. In fact it was so elaborate it drove me nuts and I removed it, along with the radio, which I couldn't hear over the wind noise and engine noise anyhow. But that was just me, an analog guy, who did NOT grow up with electronic car gizmos.

Yes, I also have a battery kill switch, and a manual fuel shut-off. In addition, most folks will never figure out how to open my engine cover either.
Hey Guys:

I feel a little inadequate. My Speedster has nothing to keep it safe. Have any of you had an incident where your car was almost stolen? I figured if anyone wants it then they will find a way to steal it. I drive it and just leave it open with the top down. Since the doors have no locks or windows to speak of, I thought anyone that wants to get into it will do it. Let me know if you think an alarm is really necessary.

Your biggest concerns should be the MF's who "key" your paint, then the "towtruck"
ripoffs that are gone in 40 seconds and on the boat to hoo- nows-where.

Do search on Ebay for "pager alarm"
It will prob be close to $100
Any alarm will hafta be custom installed. I did mine m'self in a few hours

The pager type will alert you to ANY mischief goinon.
Range the same as cordless phone, approx. 1000'

Mine has a "Viper" alarm system. I got my car with 700 miles on it and the original owner went overboard with extras including this Viper alarm.

It has a key fob that vibrates a mile away to show when someone has either touched the car ot stck a hand over the side into the interior.
Also the fob has a diagram showing which side of the car someone is too close---or in the car.

When it is armed it will beep as someone gets closer to the car--louder and louder until the alarm goes off and believe me it is incredibaly loud. If you are up to a mile away you get a signal on the key fob that the perimeter is getting entered. Quite a unit.

I really don't use it as when my wife have been having dinner, people go up to it and take pictures in front of it and I'm afraid it will go off a lot.

BUT on the Carlisle trip I will use it while it's parked in front of motels.

You can Google "Viper alarms" to see it. I think it cost over $500. I wouldn't have gotten it but I'm glad it's in the car.---Jack

PS--I think these cars are super easy to straight wire---take a look under your dash--the wires are right there. I'm glad I have that Viper alarm

If I didn't have an alarm I'd just pull the center wire of the distributor up a little so it wouldn't fire----or remove the rotor.
That would save the car but not protect the contents. That's where the alarm comes in.

If a pro wants your car he will get it.

But over the years I've had two vehicles stolen (by amatuers) and both were recovered. Neither had an alarm and both were parked outside and locked. The good news is that on these older vehicles, the crooks just pull off the slip-on connectors at the ignition switch and hot wire it. No damage done. Easy to fix - IF you get the vehicle back. Sad to say, I started adding my own disabling switchs after these events occured.

I do leave speedy in all manner of parking lots. It's a driver and I am going to use and enjoy it. Cobra owners sure can't say that!
