alignment

got a little bit of a shimmy in the steering wheel at certain speeds... what kind of shop could align one of these cars... any shop or should i look for some sort of specialty shop.

You may also want to look into rebalancing your tire/wheels

A no-brainer but have you checked the pressure in your tires? A friend developed a front-end wiggle then said his tires hold air well and he seldom checks them. We checked and they had 18 pounds. Corrected the pressure and the wiggle went away.

I assume my mech checked em last month when i had it in, but.... Ya, I better check them tonight. :)

It might be wise to also check the ball joints. I remember my old blue beetle years ago,got real bad before I discover they were worn out. Tapping the brake would make it stop But OH,boy would it shimmy.

Here's a thought for owners of older speedsters.....Check the vertical supports on the axle beam assembly for rust-through .....
Aslo, the frame head where it is factory welded to the front center of the pan tunnel area. I have seen more than one CMC Fiberfab speedster that was home built. Initial complaint was a steering wheel shimmy and after checking all other sources, the above was the source...kinda scary.

How long had car been parked in same spot....sometimes cold weather and sitting in storage can cause this problem....but it should go away after some driving

All of the notions could cause your problem.

You question regarding Alignement; just about any Alignement Shop can set the car-up.

Look close for Warn Frontend Parts or Out of Balance Tires/Wheels.
