Danny Piperato is my new hero. He performed a carb tweaking/syncing/tuning session at Carlisle that worked wonders.

Danny, it is running beautifully, getting much better mileage (30+ on one stretch), and only sticking a little - and only then after several hours on the road. This magic took maybe 20 minutes to perform.

YOU DA MAN!!!!!!!!!!!

Update: Used the calculator on my cell phone, and it looks like 35 mpg. 288km = 178.56mi then divided by 5.11 gallons = 34.936. I suppose that I may have not filled it up entirely, but the gauge went above full, and has come down at its normal rate. If 35 is for real, holy CARP!!! Even if it's 10% high, that's still 31+, which is pretty incredible. Danny's magical ministrations made my motoring marvelous (I love aliteration).

Ran beautifully all the way home, despite a couple of "biblical" downpours. The throttle shaft is still sticking a bit, though. That wasn't what I asked him to fix anyway. I will CAREFULLY remove the carbs and clean and lube the linkage while inspecting for any burrs or indication of other damage. I emphasized "CAREFULLY" as I don't want to remove the magical mojo by messing up the man's marvelous ministrations.

I don't have all of the mileage numbers, but it appears that the lowest I saw on my return trip was just under 28. Woohoo!
Lane, I was just going to call you to find out how it ran. Now I don't have to! Glad to hear it. When I adjust someone's car, I always feel responsible, kind of like a Dad, you know? Especially since you have such a long trip home, I would feel real bad if it didn't run well. You were a little on the rich side is all, and I balanced the idle stops and the linkage. That's all folks. Took maybe twenty minutes, not a big deal. But thanks for the kudos, and I do it because I enjoy making them run well, is all.

And on long trips, my thirsty Spyder gets 32 mpg at the average speed of 78! So 35 and change is understandable with a 1915cc.
Danny - I'd like to buy an STE flow meter like the one you used to tune Jack's carbs. Checking CB's website, they offer two variations ( http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=572 ), the "BK" meter, which they describe as being suitable for 48-53mm intake diameters, and the "SK" meter, which they describe as being ideal for 40-55mm intake diameters. My car has Weber 44 IDF's. Which meter is correct for those carbs?
