Good news and kinda not good news but not bad news: The engine went back in today(that's the good news)! Nobody told me it was going back in today (that's the kinda not good news but not bad news). I went by my buddies garage today and saw my car on the lift and the engine was in. I didn't say anything because I was happy to see it without a huge hole in the back, but I wanted to heat sheild the engine compartment before it went back in. No biggie I guess. I had planned to move the MSD but found some info on the "run on" issue I was having is very likely being caused by having a voltage regulator so all I think I need to do is put in a diode to stop the run on. If it persists I'll move the MSD then. I DID get the new engine tins cut and the new apron tins as well so that will be an improvement. Hopefully I can get the fire wall pieces on with out too much interference from the engine being in place.
I'm stoked to see how it is now with the new shifter coupler and bushings in place and the engine running cooler (hopefully). There are still a few little odds and ends I have to do to get it "completed", but for the most part it should be ready to go!
Gosh, it's gonna be sooooo tough deciding on which car to take everyday. "Hmmmmmm, do I take the Speedster or the 911?" ;)

Wish me luck! I'm going by in the morning to put on the engine tins and do an oil and filter change on the 911. If all goes well I'll be breaking in the new cylinders by tomorrow night!!!!

Glad I could ablige Jim. ;)

Yeah, those 911's hold some serious oil. Two 5.5 qt jugs did the trick.
It was reassuring to get the 911 on the lift finally and have a good look underneath it. It's very clean. I like how similar it is to the VW. Everything is right there for you to see.

The speedster on the other hand is not cooperating. It seems to have developed a misfire so I have new plugs on the way (start with the basics). And the MSD run-on issue is now constant where it was intermitent. I picked up a couple diodes at Radio Shack and we'll get on that hopefully later today.
