Usually the red light comes on when initially starting the car and goes off when the rpm's hit 1500 or so when i start driving and doesn't come back on until I restart the car later that day, normal operation I understand. the other morning it did the usual but I noticed at a stop light the alternator light came back on steady which has not happened before while at idle, but went off at 1500 rpm's and it has occured occasionally in the past 2 days. Do you think the alternator or component of is going bad? Thanks

Fan belt? Tight enough? Slipping? It's easy enough to check the voltage output of the alt, to make sure that isn't it.

Ok I'll read up a bit to see how to check the output. The belt had a 1/2" of play and in very good condition. Thanks
