Except for this. I almost crapped my pants.

We have got to have seen this here before, but the details are strikingly and hauntingly familiar:

"The special utilized a shortened VW center tunnel, with a square tube supporting space frame. The motor was a 1300 VW mated to a VW transaxle, 356 drum brakes and porsche suspension. The following year, Pup built a second, more streamlined body, and installed it on the VW chassis, with a 1500 Porsche motor. He sold the car to make room for a carrera speedster, in which he won the 1958 national championship. After a succession of owners, the car was left decaying behind a gas station on Sunrise Highway. Soon forgotten, but luckily, a few years later, Butch Strunk discovered the old race car. However, because it had several modifications, and was in such bad shape, with a tree growing up through the center tunnel, the identity was a bit unclear."

What in the wide, wide world of sports is the difference? He just described half our cars! (With a VIN ... naturally. But still! More than TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND BUCKS? I should have been a used-car salesman!)

I was looking for pistons, I swear. I just happened to type 'seats' instead of 'pistons.' But, since they presented themselves ...
These are a reasonable alternative to the Kirkey low-back vintage racer style, if anybody needs 'em.

(Standard disclaimer: Don't eat peanuts if you're allergic. Chew before swallowing. Don't run with product in hand if product resembles scissors. I have no connection with these guys. I have not put my hiney into one of these seats, but they sure look uncomfortable for long drives. Blah, blah, blah.)

And, riding under the same disclaimer, here's a no-reserve grille currently going for under fifty bucks:

Horn button for $40?

Some pretty fancy seatbelts from the same guy, for fifty-something bucks:

Interior door handles and window winders:

TC, this isn't the one you wanted, but it's a B/C handle for twenty bucks:

Last one, and I'm going back to looking for my piston. This is a sentimental favorite, but there's no way I'm coming up off of eighty bucks for some wickedly cool goggles when I already have two pairs and only two seats. Cool little case for 'em, too, although I still think you'd have to have more money than sense ...

And now I will resume my hunt for a TRW 103.
Kid,

If you're poking around in Ebay, THIS:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260073909707&fromMakeTrack=true

is the one that you ought to be watching.

Of course, if you're interested in send your hard earned cast to a Nigerian Fraud Scheme . . . look no further than this little gem:

Love the seats. TC, since that thing still hasn't sold, I'll be watching it. I could actually park that guy in front of my house with no heartburn whatsoever. And I know just the guy who could make a strip-racer out of the 99 percent of the parts I don't need.
Thanks!
Kid. Funny.
One hundred and ten thousand damned dollars on the barrelhead, and the reserve is still not met.
The Hoopty is officially for sale; starting bids at one hundred thousand and one dollars.
Any takers?

Brief description:
VW tunnel cut after tree didn't grow through it. Tube chassis supporting said tunnel, behind which is a VW transaxle. Behind that is a Porsche 2.3, but if that's a deal-breaker, I'll go look for a 1300 VW. Body color is original 1956 Porsche Racing Silver, with a little primer here and there. Retro styling provided, thanks to a Saws-All and some Thunder Ranch fiberglass, some aluminum and a whole lot of drawings on cardboard boxes.
Never wrecked, but that can be arranged.
Racing history documented by the Maryland State Police (I'll have to go tempt fate when the engine's fixed to make that true) and by the Anne Arundel County Police Department (I'll also have to go and make them aware that the car exists).
Creature comforts include: None available.
Call XXX-XXX-XXXX for details. Ask for the nutjob.
