The 2008 Amelia Island Concours is happening March 7 - 9 at beautiful Amelia Island Golf Course, right next to the Ritz Carlton Hotel on the island. for those unaware of where in the World this is, it's about 20 minutes Southeast of Jacksonville, Florida - practically in my back yard ;>)
All information can be found on their website: http://www.ameliaconcours.org/
The Florida RM Auction of classic and collectible cars will be held on Saturday, along with a number of driving events around the island or on the local airstrip (some sponsored by Porsche). The auction "may" be televised at a later date - I just don't know.
Sunday brings the Concours d' Elegance where they are expecting 300 of the most prestigious classics in the country. Parnelli Jones is the Honorary Chairman for the event. All of the cars shown are by "Invitation Only" and owners must provide documentation of pedigree, lineage and restoration for their cars.
Don't be mistaken.....this is a rung or two below Pebble Beach, but is on a par with Monterey and other prestigious events, and is THE Concours to see on the East coast. The prestige must explain the $40 per head attendance fee.
MaGuiar's "Car Crazy" did a show about the 2007 event - I saw it and it was a typical Barry MaGuire show (lots of focus on him and his "friends") so he will probably be there again this year - he pays dearly for an "exclusive" for the event!
Check it out on the website. Kathy and I and a few members from the Beaufort club will probably be there on Sunday, so maybe we can hook up with some SOC friends from the Southeast (Nolan??)
