I'm looking to change over my oil hose setup (engine to remote filter and cooler) and looking to a braided setup or other setup that works from others experience and keeping it within a sensible budget.

My current setup is oil rated hose on push on barb but have found that over time the lines harden up and the clamps need to be tightened over time and last year at Carlisle on a morning start up I blew a line off of the cooler.

It looked like the Exon Valdez spill in the parking lot when a cooler line blew off.

I'm a fan of Jeg's brand braided nylon hose and their fittings. They are the same exact fittings you'd get from Russell or Earl's without the fancy price. Summit sells it too I think.

I use the nylon hose for multiple reasons: It's easier to work with, it won't abrade anything it touches like the stainless steel version, it's slightly more flexible, and it's cheaper.

It holds the same higher pressure as the steel. I buy the rubber-clad straps to hold it down and route it. I've had the same hoses going to my cooler for 10 years with no signs of wear/stiffness/abrasion.

Any rubber lined hoses have to be checked occasionally that they haven't swelled shut. It's not common but does happen. Teflon lined hoses are truly trouble free, but are more expensive, don't  have the bend radius that a rubber lined hose will so a little more planning is in order and may take a couple more fittings to make it work.

And yes, Mike, I remember helping you clean that mess up!  Al

What size hose and fitting type are you using Danny and Gordon.

Yes you did Al and without a Hazmat suit lol. It was amazing how well that oil pump works.

Highly over-rated, Mike! It was surprising how much oil was on the ground; it didn't take long to get it all cleaned up, though. AN-8 (3/8") is the minimum recommended for oil lines. Fwiw- I have heard of the 'put-together' AN fittings coming apart (not done correctly?). Gene Berg Enterprises sells teflon lined stainless steel hoses with properly swedged ends; you tell them how long, what fittings and they guarantee they won't come apart. They even claim slightly higher oil pressure because of less friction with teflon than with the rubber lining. A little more expensive, I know, but you'll never have to buy hoses again.

Wrong Al. An fittings are in numbers of 1/16ths of an inch. So AN8 is 8/16" I.D. or 1/2".

AN6 is 3/8" I.D.

I and others recommend AN-8 for oil lines, if the cooler is near the engine in back. If you do a front-mounted cooler I'd do AN-10 lines, less friction and pressure loss that way.

AN fittings screwed into the lines don't fail when installed properly. My old Gene Berg pump gave me 100 psi on cold startup, never lost an AN line.
