To answer an earlier question, I'm not 28, I'm sixty. It's no BS when I said I drove my old Ghia back and forth to California without a hitch. The mileage is only slightly exaggerated.
Good news Cory, your care is running..... sort of. I have a short video but can't seem to upload it. Put a stock duel port 1600 in it, pretty much fired right up. Set the timing, adjusted the carbs, everything good. Unfortunately, as soon as I hooked up the battery, the tail lights came on and stayed on. That's funny because I can't get the tail lights on my car to work, now I can't get Cory's to stop working. Think that over guys while I get a couple of bugs sorted. For example, there is a squeak while the engine is running, an annoying little squeak. We took the belt off thinking it was fan relate. Then my son asks if I removed the collar from the pressure plate...... crap, I didn't check that. So the engine has to come back out.
We're letting it cool down, and then back at it. It should be good to go in a couple of hours.
So Cory, please come and get your car out of my garage. There is a "Cruise on Central" tonight and one son is taking my yellow car. There just happens to be a silver car sitting here......
It's always a ground issue with these things...
Oh the little annoying things...
Cory's at a wedding in New York. Feel free to test drive the car all night tonight.
Paul push the headlight switch all the way in...
I'll try the headlight switch, thanks. The clutch is squared away, we dropped the engine and left it under the car, removed the pressure plate and the collar, and then put the engine right back in. Less than an hours work. Just fired it up and it sounds good, for a stock 1600. Changing cloths and off for a test drive.
Everything is looking good though.

This kind of technical know-how and advise comes from years of experience overlooking the glaringly obvious. My latest fiasco was not being able to get out the front door. After tugging, yanking, then kicking it I finally realized the deadbolt was locked.
Who ever said it was a ground was right. I didn't pull this engine originally and nothing was labeled. There were two big wires, a red and a brown. I thought they both went to the main post on the alternator. Wrong, the brown wife was a ground. All fixed now. I wish I could get my tail lights working. Electrical is not my bag
Luckily, I have two Becks side by side.
Ground was my first thought, but I'm not good with wiring so I kept my fingers shut.
I would first run a jumper off a 12v source to the hot on the tail light and see if both and the lic light go on, they should as all three are wired to each other. ....then you'll know they are still wired ..If you can't easily find the tail light fault, you can easily run another wire off the headlight switch to either tail light hot
I'll try that Alan, thanks.
Paul
The Cruise on Central is tomorrow. We'll have two Speedsters, my son driving my Yellow one and I'll drive Cory's. My second son may take his turbo charged Herbie or ride with me, not sure yet. We are living high on the hog with all these cool cars.

I'm so psyched! Like sending off a daughter to her first prom! She'll be safe with Paul...
Will I have to change my intake manifolds from the Kads if I change to Webber or Dellortos? (just more filler on this thread) We're only on page 9...

Yes
We took both cars to the "Cruise on Central" an annual event. This was my first time but my boys have been going for years. I just got back home with Cory's car, mine stayed behind with my oldest son. Lots of great cars and ours got lots of attention.
I would love nothing more then to spend a day like this with my son!
Yeah, my oldest, Adam and I have not always seen eye to eye. My youngest Aaron and I were born on the same day and we get along great. Adam has fallen in love with my new Speedster and asks to borrow it some evenings. It gives me a great deal of pleasure to share the car with him. It was really cool having two Speedsters (thanks to Cory) and go to the car show together.
Oddly enough, Aaron hasn't shown much interest in the new car. I went from wanting a Speedster, to having two in the garage.
WELL!
I arrived back in AZ from NY this morning, and who picked me up at the airport IN MY OWN SPEEDSTER, with a tidy, tight, 1600cc loaner motor installed in it, but my hero and yours, @PaulEllis!
It's beautiful! Just hums along gorgeously!
So grateful for Paul's generosity -- I was profusely thanking him after I dropped him off at his place, and he said he wagered there were a dozen guys in the SOC who would've done the same, in his circumstances,
i think he's right.
Oh, by the way -- you all missed the Testicle Festival. I know it's not Carlisle, but still, think about it for next October.
It takes balls to attend a festival like that.
I asked my wife if I could test tickle her...
Two days.
Nuthin'.
You're killin' me here, Smalls.
Attending the Testicle Festival would be a 'eunuch' experience!
Makes you Unique
You guys are nuts...

My response was the most obvious but that was clever. In fact that response gets the "Geld" Standard of Excellence award.
Update this post and get us back on track Cory.
It takes balls to carry on a conversation like this. What a "disaster" this post has turned into...
I believe the sign on the chain link fence in the photo Cory posted should be changed to read:
"No parking within 15 feet of the pavement and nowhere near the bull, he is really irritated since the operation."
The latest on Cory's car is that he is driving it. My son and I installed a stock engine we had sitting around. It gave me a great deal of pleasure to pick Cory up from the airport in his car. He dropped me off at my place and later sent me a pic indicating he was in cooler climates, about 100 miles outside of town.
The parts may be ready to pick up Friday. I know the cylinders are honed and the case is cleaned up. We may be able to start assembly this week end. The shop is measuring chamber volume so we can get the compression where it needs to be. We'll be assembling parts that are clean as a whistle so it should go smoothly. Pretty exciting stuff and for change, I'm not the one paying for parts and machine work.
Paul, there is a special place in heaven for guys like you.
Yes, I would imagine that a "Testicle Festival" would do just that....
Aren't those things called "Rocky Mountain Oysters"? Must be tougher than the Oysters down Lane's way.

And, at least to me, a whole lot less appetizing.
Paul, I'll second BobG's comment. The best thing about having my Speedster is that I learned that there are a lot of folks out there like you. A goodly number of them helped build my car. It helps me keep some faith in humanity.
Yep!
Thanks to Paul's beautiful loaner motor, I did all of this today, starting at sunrise, on a rare Thursday off...
Very cool, stuff. I too am enjoying my car.
Cory, I am assuming you have some good roads near your home? Where are the best roads outside of Phoenix?
