I agree with Stan !! I can't remember the last time I saw an Airflow or a pair of Studdies side by side. I have friends in the lakes region that tell me they only have 3 to 4 months to enjoy their cars. It's way different here in California as you know.

For us here, there’s no point keeping the car out past the end of October. The absolute earliest I’d get the car out would be April, but that’s a hypothetical because I’ve never been ready that early.

Ever.

Someday I’ll be done dorking around by the end of March… but for now, I’d be satisfied with June 1. I was tracking well for it this year, but alas — it wasn’t in the cards. That means ideally, there’s 7 months of season, but realistically is 6. There have been years when it was 3, which was pretty awful

I’m in Denver at my daughter’s right now (waiting for the late start of the Indy 500) with the makings of two full engines in the back of my truck. Tuesday, I’m headed up to Rapid City, SD to drop them off, then blow home on Wednesday.

The 2110 is back in the car and I’m 100% wired for EFI. Once Danny P is back from vacation, I’m hoping to get him out for the startup on Microsquirt. I’m deeply committed to spark and fuel being controlled by a computer at this Sept.’s TdS.

Are you planning on driving or trailering out, Dave? You’re always welcome to stop in Stanistan: we’ve got plenty of room.

Stan, I will be driving out from Kalifornia to join you folks. It will take me 5 to 6 days to get to Virginia along the I-40 route. I have a pretty good idea of the night stops along the way. A lot depends on weather and how the car runs. This will be the first real long road trip for the speedster. I'm sure it will make it there and back or I would't be doing it. But stuff happens and you just need to adjust to it. Thanks for the invite to Stanistan. I will keep you posted as we get closer to the trip. I will book my room next week. Good luck on your road trip. Hopefully the race will get started today. I'm a big Indy 500 fan too.

If you are going I-40 and plan a stopover in the Memphis area I have a good friend who has joined us for the last couple of TdSs who I'm sure would be happy to meet up for some conviviality and adult refreshments.  He probably won't be able to make this year's TdS (family dive trip in the Carribbean - tough life), but he's car guy with a C5 Z06 Corvette that he's tracked a couple of times.

Let me know and I'll make introductions.  Either he or I can tell what parts of town to stay away from as we both grew up there.

Thanks Lane, I have stayed in Memphis in the past at the Hilton Memphis off Hwy 240. I hope it is still a good area and it's not too far from Corky's Ribs. The introduction to your friend would be cool.

Butcherboy, did that X country in 72(just home from Nam) in a 70 Duster 6banger, no air..took me 5 days and I was driving 10-12 hrs straight..in a speedster ur ass is gonna be sore(maybe big pillow for support).

Dont doubt U can do it as I remember U survived the bus trip from Sattahip to Bangkok during the war...:}}}}}}}}}}

LOL barncobob !! don't know about the bus deal, but I have my ways to survive hours in the seat. I may wish I had another gear in my speedster ............ As it is 80 mph all day is not a problem.

@Butcher Boy

Dave:  you should chat with @Jack Crosby on here.  He has an older Vintage with a Jake Raby Type 4, lives near Little Rock and has driven to both coasts.  He has a bunch of tips and tricks to make the journey more survivable, like a pillow under your knees just ahead of the seat for more support…..Stuff like that.

The same could be said for @David Stroud IM Roadster D, another long mile trekker.

Thanks Gordon. I am familiar with both Jack and David's Iron Butt journey's. I was a lurker on this site long before I joined and ordered a speedster. I'm open to tips and tricks and enjoy the stories. Back 15 years ago I did a couple of charity drives in my 1932 Ford Roadster. They were a little extreme for most folks, but the idea was to attract attention of my fellow Hot Rodders to give money to this charity. With their help my drives raised over $ 200.000.00 for Ronald McDonald House. My task was to drive to 49 states in less than 10 days. I did it twice, first in 2009 "49in8 days" and again in 2011 "49in7 days". I drove over 1,000 miles a day and some days it was 1,200 miles. I was a younger man of 59 and 61 at the time. I don't do those drives anymore at the age of 74, but I still can easily do 500 to 600 a day. Last year I did 2 pleasure drive to Hot Rod events in Nashville and one in Oklahoma, both from California. This will be a good test for my speedster and I will get to meet some new friends back east. Should be a hoot !!

If you're talking about the round Hilton tower near Poplar Ave. and I-240, that's a very good part of town.  It's also where I had my wedding reception, and I worked in that office park for years.  I'll connect you and Kelly and hope y'all can meet up.  Wanna IM me an email or phone number for texting?
