I had about ten minutes to spare today and the best I could come up with is that that is a Ford Zetec motor in that car. Either a 1.6L or a 2.0L. It is likely an older one based on some earlier photos I saw or they used an older looking valve cover to tone down the modern look of the engine. Also, on the Pole GT forum the most common engine it seems is a Ford Zetec of some type:
I just spent some time trying to find an engine that looks like that one. I didn't find one.
There are two distinctive solenoid-looking devices that look like variable valve timing hardware to me. Also, those are coil-on-plug units that I've never seen.
Possibly, Michael could find this guy and ask him what engine is in there. I'd love to know.
Pulled from one of the forums. The 2.0 Blacktop was in Focus and Mondeo, so there are plenty of Focus models still out there. Stock HP 150ish can be built to HP.

Close, but no cigar. 2.0L EcoBoost.
The kicker was the two VVT solenoids (Miatas that have VVT only have one. Honda VTECs are on the front of the cam, not the top.) The valve cover seals it.
The coil-on-plug kind of fooled me (Miata’s don’t have them) initially because they look like the ones on my Smart.
eta: It’s possible it’s a 2.3L EcoBoost. I couldn’t find a good pic of one, and it’s hard to tell from the Opel pic which one it has.

If I only had 11 minutes. LOL Good find.
