A roundie Ray?
Original parts are hard to find, but who wants them? Loads of aftermarket parts and upgrades. These have yet to hit the "collectors" table. They are getting really popular largely because of the ease of modernizing. Relatively easy to work on too... Here is a nice video on a great job done by a young man.

I am hoping to find a good rustless body on a roundie and might do a resto mod to it. Depends. (Right now timing is not good . Fighting some health bulls**t.)
But later this coming spring... look out.
For me I prefer the look of the Alfa GTV. (I have had 3 Alfas - I must be a sucker for punishment.)

But the 2002 is  a much better built and more sound car to turn a bolt on....
In short - Go for it Ray!

Wait a minute . This is the speedster forum. Got a little off topic a tad . ;-)

There are 2 cars I wonder why nobody has splashed a mold off of:

Longhood 911, and BMW 2002

I suspect it has something to do with the worry about Porsche and BMW's legal department, but it'd be super-cool if somebody were to do it. Both cars are very desirable, but horribly prone to rust. I really hate rust. I got into speedster replicas when the price of an IM was about 1/2 an original. It's 1/10 now, and likely to get even worse. I'm still happy with the decision to go 'glass.

Anyhow, regarding the V8 2002: forget a M5 V8,  I'd love to see somebody stuff an LS or small-block Ford in one. The older I get, the more I appreciate American pushrod V8s (and German pushrod flat 4s).

As far as the longhood: if somebody made a glass early 911/12 SWB knock-off with a tube frame and integrated rollbar, I believe I'd jump on that wagon. Slip a big dry-sumped Type 4 back there with a 915, and never look back.

Rainy fall day dreamin'...

There is the Covin 911 replica in the UK.  Started off as VW pan based but later ones have a custom 150 mph capable Covin tube chassis.  Not sure why they aren't popular in US especially with escalating prices on even the 912E (now $25k or more).  (Maybe due to  right hand drive?) I'm sure Porsche AG is not happy with the Covin.

Of course ... I was saying - current prices for original 356 and  currrent IM prices.

Seems to still be about half.  $180k vs $90k.

I'm unconvinced. Yes, an IM with a Porsche 6 is half the cost of a nice coupe, but find me a decent OG speedster for $180k, and I'll buy it and immediately resell it at a $100k profit.

Stan, there's no point in copying the 2002 as they are readily available for under $30K

Here's one example under $30

Here's another (way) under $20K

This is probably true, and there probably is no market for them. But as a midwestern boy who spent WAY too much time in the late 1970s trying to make a silk purse out of a rusty sows ear-- I really, really hate rust. Rust never sleeps. Ever. '02s started rusting in Bavaria.
