OK, You New Englanders and New Englander wannabes......
Did you miss the vintage racing at Thompson Speedway in Northeast Connecticut last weekend and are still kicking yourself? The weather was perfect and the unclad scenery was said to have been momentous.
Want something to redeem your motorhead pride? Here is a GREAT summer event that you can't even pronounce!
The 24-Hours of LeMons, Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg Commemorative Race.
That is the honest-to-Pete name of a lake near Thompson Speedway, but because you have to grow up here and practice saying it every summer, all your life, til you get it right or go blind, everyone calls it just "Webster Lake" (yes, NE wannabes, I can pronounce it). Google it, you'll see.
Anyway, this year's "Summer in New England LeMons Race" is over the August 13-14 weekend and, with the new, "No-Go-Pro-On-The-Helmet" rule, should be be a little safer than in the past. Plus, I've heard that the BS judges in New England are even tougher than those in South Carolina, so it should be an interesting pre-race tech inspection, for sure.
For you New Englander wannabes, remember that in the Summer we're a lot more like Canada, eh? Daytime temps in the balmy mid-to-upper 80's or so and reasonably dry.... WAY better than the 100's and 99.999% humidity the rest of you are seeing in soupy August.
Like Lime Rock Park, Thompson is a beautiful drive from the Interstate roads, but tucked into the northeast corner of Connecticut (Lime Rock Park is in the Northwest part of CT), and reasonably close (and equidistant) to I-90 and I-95 via the I-395 connector.
This would be a great precursor to our annual gathering at Lime Rock Park over Labor day, so who might be interested? If I were to pick a day, it would be hard - Seeing the preliminary culling of the flock by the BS judges on Saturday, or the excitement-packed, white-knuckled, Blood-in-their-eye finish on Sunday and THEN the resulting screams of the losers, the tech inspection of the winner and whether the BS judges crush their car for cheating?? Tough choice, indeed.
So who might be interested??
