Nah, not really! The drums alone cost more than a good VW chassis and with a nice engine. Then you start with a Porsche 356 engine and transaxle and . . . the price of the parts, body, and and paint to rebuild are about five times the worth of the car when finished.
If it truly kills you to see this kind of thing, just keep saying, "the body's fiberglass, the body's fiberglass, the body's fiberglass . . . ." Funny how those three little words cause the whole thing make to suddenly sense, isn't it? Metal shell, go to hell, fiberglass shell, all is well.
Who cares? A metal body isn't going to rust any faster than a metal pan: nobody is in a bunch over metal pans, but mention a metal shell and it's like it's going to rust to nothing just sitting overnight in the garage. Don't get it sometimes . . .
