Looks like I was a little too terse. My stroll down memory lane left out a few curious facts, addressed below:
'56 356A 1600 Normal, bought in 1966 for $600 the day I graduated from college. It was rusty and bent, with an engine that promptly died from total neglect. Had the engine rebuilt to factory spec and blueprinted, and it ran like a top for many years until the body rusted apart. It left the garage in two pieces. Really, it rusted apart.
Forgot: '61 356 B S90. Bought used ($2,000??) with some windfall from my grandfather's estate. This is THE ONE, as in, the one I wish I still had. Sweet, sweet machine, bought used in fine shape. I ditched the fancy schmancy Chromalloy pistons and cylinders for cast iron Super ones, and never looked back -- stopped buying motor oil by the case. This DD also began to rust out, as they all do. Took it off the road with intent to have it rewelded. Budget simply did not allow, it was sold as-is.
, '67 289 Mustang - plain-Jane automatic white two door, actually inherited from my wife at the time. Not a great family car, and the fam was growing.
,'70 (?) Accord hatchback (Gen 1) Had to wait in line and pay extra for the privilege of buying one of the new Hondas.,
'66 totally whipped station wagon, bought and sold for $100, obtained from my boss as a tide-me-over between real cars, that thing was HUGE, and ran about 9 MPG
'84 F150 300-6 bought new for purpose of building a new house. Still have it, does not run, pretty rusty, but is prime for a resto.
, '70 145 bought used, was the good fam hauler, had to rebuild the engine as it ate a cam lobe. Son drove it as his first ride. Eventually hauled to the junk yard for scrap.
'80-something A4 (?) x 2, both used --very bad idea there. Very nice four door when it was running, which it did in spurts. Blew its automatic trans, replaced with used and then promptly traded for a slightly newer one, which promptly started to fail: Bad R&P unit, leaking fluid; cracked heater box leaking antifreeze inside the car, mega bucks to fix. So, ... Poured in stop leak to both items, wiped up the mess and managed to trade it at the dealer for a
'?? Mitsubishi Galant (new) , which was a really good car, until it wasn't at about 100K mi
'00 Mazda 6, (new) another really great car, V6 5 spd. Until it wasn't, needing an ever increasing number of parts, ending in a new clutch, which I did not do. Sold to CarMax; did not mention the clutch slipping, and maybe they did not notice ??
'18 Accord Sport (Gen 10), 2.0 l turbocharged 4, 6spd, Best car ever.
and of course the '06 JPS 2332. About as much fun as can be had.
