Hello,

Still I am waiting for better weather in Germany to get my VMC 356 super wide body registered. In order to get a "hictorical" registration the TUV-inspector asked for a proove that a "wide body" version was extisting already 30 years ago.

I was searching the web, however I have not seen any proof or picture - all the wide bodies - or outlaws are either VMC or younger than (say) 10 years.

I was pretty sure that anyone must have had a 356 with wide body modification being 30 years old.  But where to find ?

(It astonished me as well that this seems to be rare - considering the other Porsche models - 914 -> 914/6 -> 916, 924 -> 944, 911 - 911 Turbo, 928 -> 928 GTS, they all ended up as sort of widened body)

I knew the green 356 from Walther Roehrl, however the modification is less than 30 years old - and the TUV-Inspector rejected it.. as being too facy with the 6 cylinder..

So any "old" modification known ?

Thank you - Bjoern

Had ever dreamed of a super wide body....

Mine is a CMC classic body delivered in Nov 1988.  The CMC is not a super wide body Speedster - I'd call it flared.  There is old CMC/FF literature showing the California flared body from before 1990 (add would have a date at bottom).  Early on CMC bought Fiberfab and same models were sold as either FF or CMC.

There won't be any from VMC and suspect none over 20 years old from VS (or JPS).

So he asks ... So any "old" modification known ?

All that exists are the FF/CMC flared replicas.  Might be some real steel racing ones out there somewhere.  At least FF?CMC flared bodies existed way back to 1982.  None of the flares have fallen off and hurt anyone - so just as safe as a non-flared body.
