Hi all,

i have been on the Forum for a little while now but..

i am feeling a little lonely over here in the 'land Downunder'-   - any one seen any Speedster owners over here in Australia on the site/forum here...

i am based in Geelong just south of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia.

My Speedster is based on a 1963 chassis and has a 1600 engine. It has a pair of Webber 40mm carbies with performance heads. There is a stainless side winder exhaust and performance ignition.

The body is very well made and is in extremely thick glass. My body shop guy said it is one of the straightest bodies he has seen in fiberglass

It has all the normal Speedster seats, carpet etc.

Some time ago I asked for advice on getting Speedster parts in the US and was able to get some great leads and make purchases.

I am in the US quite often, for car events as I have different cars in my garage, so will visit one or two of the retailers. I am visiting Cal. for SEMA in October and November so will have time then.

Since buying the Speedster, I have added a banjo steering wheel and a number of those original badges and scripts on the guards/fenders and the dash. I am looking for good reproduction or period correct gauges. - speedo etc. etc.

I have also managed to get a number of genuine 356 club badges and large rear deck grill badges from the 356 Register and the Nue.Ring Badge.

So it looks the part.

Interestingly, when I purchased the car the registration label attached to the screen has/had the Speedster listed as a 1963 Porsche. The registration person obviously registered it as he saw it. Normally it would be registered on the original car identification and have a note that it was a re body.

Anyway...... In Australia you don't question the authority or knowledge of our registration staff....  so it is registered as a 1963 Porsche on the label and this really confused people thinking it is real.

Anyway back to the point...

OK are there any Australians on this site - yell out..

Or if anyone has seen an Australian lurking..

cheers

Bernie

Hi Bernie,

I am in Collingwood so maybe we could catch up for a chat sometime.

I built my replica up in Queensland based on a body I bought from a company called Speesters from Western Australia back in the 90s.

The vast majority of the parts on the car is from Chesil Speddsters (UK) as I worked in London for a number of years.

Cheers

Anthony

i am involved on other Forums like yourself as I have different cars. It always amazes me that enthusiastic car ownership always breaks down barriers internationally.

one of my interests sees me at race tracks throughout the US and it is always great to be able to get local advice and buy someone a beer when you finally meet.

let me know if you ever want to head Downunder I can help with some travel advice and must see things.

cheers.

Hope you enjoy the tour of NZ. Covering both the south and north islands will give you plenty to see and do. You probably won't have time to drink..

There is a half day sailing opportunity on the Auckland Harbour on Americas Cup yachts that is worth doing. Even if not into sailing it gives a whole new perspective the Auckland from the water.

they are moored just below the restaurants on the Harbour.

Leon,

Thanks I will look Uncle Bill details up.

yes would be good to catch up and swap a few stories and check the Speedsters out, maybe a cruise.

Anthony great, yes may catch up. I am not sure what time I am meeting to collect the delivery - some car bits for one of my other cars.

I am also in Melbourne a couple of weeks later over the weekend.

anyway will talk today - 0408 564448. - 0408 KNIGHT

cheers, thanks again Leon for the lead.

Hey guys, I'm in Melbourne and hoping to purchase a Speedster in the next couple of weeks that's currently registered in Queensland.  I'm planning to bring it down to Victoria and register here and thought I'd check if you guys have any advice on how to avoid problems with transferring the rego to VicRoads.  The car's registered as a 63 and has a Qld Blue engineering plate attached.  It was assembled in Australia 10+ years ago I'm told.

Thanks.

Hi, sorry missed your reply but also don't know your number so can't call!  The car I was looking at Queensland fell through as the owner got cold feet but I've found a nice 80's Intermeccanica Speedster which is more to my liking anyway.  When I get it I'll let you know.

It was registered at a country location for convenience as the roadworthy was done in the same town.

BTW, when I was at Beverly Hills Motor Cars, I saw they had several 70s and 80s Intermeccanica
Speedsters and Roadsters. I hope that helps in your search.

Great to hear there are few Speedster owners in the Melbourne and Geelong area.

Also, my Speedster is currently in Melbourne - Croydon South- getting a engine re build.

Maybe we can catch for a breakfast at some stage.

An idea - the Cobra car club do breakfast occasionally at the Sandbar on Beaconsfield Pd, Middle Park. Right on the waters edge.

Any starters for a breaky run or catch up..

My mobile is above.

So is my email....
