Just before i put in my 1.4 rocker kit. My motor developed a rod knock. Only 4000 miles with a very weak 1915. I am rather disappointed that kirk would allow a reseller to order such a poorly thought out motor. But i learned DO NOT buy from a reseller.

I am looking at a new perf. long block from strictly foreign. 2yr/24000 mile warranty on a performance long block seems good. But would like to know if the group has any exp. with their motors.

Thanks
jerry

Talk to Kirk before you do anything. I was under the impression that VS's standard stroke engines were from Strictly Foreign. If the car is an '04, and the engine in the car is from the same place you are planning to buy the new one, and that place has a 2 yr warranty... it seems to me that you could probably get a new engine- under warranty.
Hi Stan:

Kirk has an in house engine builder. Or you can pick your own vender.

Mine was an in house 1915. That is why i say DO NOT buy a reseller speedster. The reseller probably saved and thus made a few extra dollars by ordering a 1915 with the stock cam from the base 1600 from south america. You just can't increase the size of the motor without changing other things to match. I think that is why my motor has been so hard to tune. The plugs look perfect. compression is spot on. new breakerless ignition and 30 KV coil. bigger valved heads. But it still does not run very well. There just is not enough air/fuel to push the bigger pistons down with any authority. And no matter what you do to the other parts. I.E. carbs-heads-headers. The stock 1600 cam will not allow it to breathe. And of course the cam is a pain to R&R.

That is also why i am disappointed with VS. They should not allow a reseller to order a mismatched motor combo. As they will run like crap. And that reflects poorly upon vintage.

I can hardly get the motor to go beyond 3500-4000 rpm. this is not right.
Jerry, I had STRICTLY build my 1776 when I had Kirk build my car. I have a new case, Demello counter weighted crank, light 12lb flywheel, 90.5 slugs and jugs, 110 cam, solid shaft rockers, swivel feet adjusters, 3/8" heavy alum. push rods, 8 to 1 comp. ratio, ported & polished heads by Chong, 40X35.5 valves, heavy single springs, 009 dist. w/ Compufire, Weber 44 IDF's, 412 R&P. I have nothing but good things to say about STRICTLY. Dan is a pleasure to deal with, and has called me several times to see how things are going and if there is anything he can do for me. If you want to know how it runs, ask some of the guys with 2110's that I run with.

Eddie
I hear that one all the time :-)

I do have some nice packages for the type 1 that are down right cheap, if someone is going that route, like either free head studs or free type 1 dtm. Also I have been fitting the Nickies with cima/mahle a or b 94s for only about $125 (a bunch cheaper than JEs). Lots of guys have been going for that option to increase the reliability of their t1s...
