Hi All -

Any folks living in Colorado in the club?

My last show for the summer is mid/late August - maybe one more in the fall - so things are going to hopefully calm down for a few months. I would really like to become a car guy again in the fall, spending more time down at the shop tinkering around. This is far more fun to do with a group of like minded folks - regardless of what types of cars they are interested in.

I used to be very active in our local 914 group (these folks were my favorite car guys - very down to earth - and good at getting dirty) but we have all sort of aged out/moved on from those cars and splintered off in a million directions. This group seems to have a lots of folks that turn their own wrenches, so thought I would reach out.

Drop me a line if you are interested. Again, does not have to be plastic speedster related at all. My #1 project right now is the completion of a MK1 Golf (wife bought me my "first car" for my 50th b-day. Having a blast putting it together). After that, I have all sorts of little cr@p to do on some frilly British stuff - and the relocation of the speedster ebrake.

Oh as an FYI, shop is located just south of down town - I-25 and Evans area.

Thanks -

Scott S

Sorry I missed you.  I was in Denver and then off to the west riding bike trails a few weeks back but didn’r ask about local folks before My trip.

My late brother had an ‘83 Scirocco 1.8 with the Callaway turbo package a while back.  Callaway also did a few GTIs and those were screamers. One or two show up at German Car Day in Boston every year.  Awesome cars, for sure.

That would have been awesome Gordon.

Just to be clear, this isnt really about "hey come to my old warehouse for a look around". While all are welcome literally anytime, my end goal is to meet folks and become resources for each other. Doesn't mean it has to be at my place. With the 914 crew, people's projects became events  - we even used to have what was referred to as "sawzall parties" when a tub was too far gone and needed to be disposed of (yeah, kinda brutal...).

So, here is kind of the premise. I have a lift and other "stuff". If any locals (or anyone else who is in town - or maybe more importantly, is driving through town) has an issue that this stuff would be helpful to resolve, please drop me a line. In the same breath, If you need an extra set of hands at your place, feel free to drop me line. If you want to come down and hang on a random Thursday - I'm in. The more folks involved, the more fun this becomes.

The reason I threw this out is that this forum appears to have a very similar group of people as the 914 forums. Lots of wrench turners with a great deal of knowledge that is shared without hesitation. It also appears that there are groups of guys on the coasts that really know and interact with each other. That's is killer. Id like to meet local folks and hopefully cross paths with others from other places as time goes on.

One thing the 914 crowed was really good at was have regional drives. They consisted of 20 to 100 cars (depending on the region) were usually 2 day events and were great fun. There are still 3-4 of these a year.

Sorry to ramble on...
