I looked into this speedster and with my build experience, I passed on it. ....needs a lot and a lot is unknown by the seller. i.e. engine status etc. The seller claims to have standing offer but yet the bidding is stalled, unless you can do all the work yourself,( paint, motor trans interior top etc etc....  you'll have way more into it than it is worth when completed. Look for a driver that need a a few odds and ends to make it yours...you'll be happier in the long run. The only thing that has much value is the banjo steering wheel... ~Alan

Yikes. It seems like the $8400.00 bid is about  what it should be 'worth'. Even that's optimistic with shipping.

When I was looking, everyone said the same thing: Buy the best car you can afford. If what you can afford right now is junk, save more money. If that means waiting longer, then that's what you should do.

You'll spend more money 'redoing' what's been done poorly than you would if you purchased a better car the first time.

Looking back, I'm glad I did just that. I *almost* pulled the trigger on a black speedster in Washington state. Best money I ever spent was the cash I sent ALB after he went and looked at it.  That car is For Sale *again*, this time it's in Colorado.

The other 'deal' I almost pulled the trigger on was the black speedster which was owned by the "Topanga Canyon Hippy". Another great spend was the "Thank You" items I sent musbjim after he helped me to avoid that disaster.  That car was sold to someone else who then spent 5 or 6 months trying to re-sell it at a much inflated price. I don't know that he ever sold it. I'm half waiting for it to show up on BHMC.

Chubbster - Save some more cash and buy a better example.

When are we going to see #37? What ever happened to the super wide body you resurrected? Is that your keeper?

Something to do over the Winter...Need to do some brain storming to come up with something unique for the CMC flared This is as I bought it today,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/251700...STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITit

It needs a lot of straightening out but it shouldn't be all that difficult. Minor body scratches and dings, butt sag door to body gap, Usual CMC door stick out on bottoms, paint, top, gauges, misc interior work, switch out the rear coil spring shocks, upgrade motor, wheels and tires etc... May name it Project Shoe String.

Super wide VS came out excellent and went to a buyer in Ill.

Alan - I was communicating with the seller of your new CMC during the previous failed online auction (reserve not met). He couldn't answer many of my questions especially with respect to the $5000 recent engine and suspension work. He didn't even know the size of the engine and after looking at a video of the engine running, I wasn't interested. That car sure is unique ... the powder coated trim cost $2000 (so he said) and black crushed velvet interior are something that you don't see very often if at all. Looking forward to your creative transformation. Have fun with the new project =)

I'm a huge fan of Scott57s wheels. I think they could look right at home on a cmc wide body. If I'm being honest, a cmc wide body is one of the most challenging body styles to really pull off. Something about the way the front flares dwarf the front wheels. It may take a 17" wheel to properly fill the wheel well. I wonder if there is a way to tone town those front flares? Maybe pull them in a bit? Make them blend with the shape of the fender better? To me, the cmc front flare to wheel size / location has always been awkward. Look at a 911 Turbo. The front fenders aren't flared out. I think if a guy could make the front flares more subtle, they could really have a good looking car. That interior would look best in a bordello or landfill.

Looking forward to the transformation.

the seller had about 15 cars inside of his buildings.the car was just about as I expected it to be crawled around and looked at everything motor fired right up and drove well. R Needs quite a bit of odds and ends but its easy stuff. Windshield  is mounted wrong, has butt sag, doors need adjusted, minor body work and a change of color. Will pull a head to confirm cylinder size and do a minor head port, 1.25

To 1 rockers, Pertronics ignition, carbs, decent exhaust. No whale tail for this puppy .....
