Is there anyone here from Louisiana that can help me with a DMV registration question? I did a search by location and found two members in the state, neither of which have posted recently. I've emailed both of those members, but I figured I'd ask in the open forum.

Does anyone know how a VW pan car like a CMC would be registered in Louisiana? How about a Beck? Are either of them specialty custom builds, or are they registered& titled as a VW or '50s Porsche?

TIA

Hi; I've been living in NOLA for close to two years. I've examined the requirements in La. briefly in the past and somehow I believe the state is pretty lax in terms of the regs. to register these cars. I believe the pan based cars are registered as a VW. I also noticed that for these cars no emission tests are required either. Hope this helps a little.
From the OMV website:

Registering a custom-built vehicle is similar to registering a homemade trailer.

Gather up all the receipts for the parts you used to make the vehicle. Then, contact your local Louisiana State Police Troop to arrange for an inspection and to have a VIN assigned.

The trooper who inspects your vehicle will give you a receipt of inspection. Take this receipt along with your driver's license to your local Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) location.

Fees for this type of title and registration process are as follows:

* $18.50 for the title.

* $8 handling fee, though this may vary.

* The license plate fee, depending on the worth of the vehicle and how long it's valid.

* $5 VIN assignment fee if the VIN was assigned by your Troop; $10 if it was assigned in the field.

No, but, I live in lapland: where Louisana laps over into Texas.

I'm in Clear Lake TX. on the bay, if you ever cross over.

I am origionally from Beaumont, tx, but I ain't no cajun, no.

I have only known of one other posting from NO, but that is when I first joined, a long time ago.

My brother teaches at LSU-BR and has a place (and sailboat) at Mandeville. I visit him there a couple of times a year and will contact you when that is eminent.

Regards,

GG

Shuie---It's really easy;

All you need for DMV is a vin # and a bill of sale. They take your fee and give you a rag. You get the title in the mail.

I found my VS in Monroe, LA and the old LA title shows it as a 1968 2D white VOLK.

That's the beauty of a pan based car that has a vin on the tunnel.

Good luck---where are you located Lousiana?----Jack
