"rits a reat name ron't range rit.......No I like it, don't change it...my SOC handle is a356fan. I chose that because I like the all of the 356 line. But the speedster of course is my favorite for looks. I just don't think you can beat that look.

I consider all of us suby guys to be scooby fans.
First I'd like to say that I think you SUBYTUB owners should find a new name for you cars because "SUBYTUB" sounds rediculous......
Any 356, replica or not should have a name or "Handle" representative of its breed....
I am also under the impression that 27 large won't get you the entire car.......Am I incorrect in either of my assessments.....

At least drop the "Y" and make it "Subtub" or "Stub" although that
may be almost as bad as the original....
Doesn't the word "SUB" have a meaning of below or under, like
Sub-par or sub marine, etc....who wants something that is sub par?????
The base model speedster is 25,900 and the only thing it doesn't come with that I think you have to add is the 2 door mirrors? Everything else is just personal preference and or upgrades you may or may not want.

My second car will actually be the base car with some things taken off!!!!!!!!!
$25,900 gets you the base Speedster. $27,000 to turn it into a stick-shift. An automatic 356 just does not seem right. Hey, I was thinking, isn't it fitting that since this is the "bathtub porsche", it should be "water" cooled. Afterall, water goes into a tub. Well, i am just trying to think of a cool name. I agree that it probably should stay more in line with the breed of car, not the engine. I am also working on a SOC name for myself. I don't need help from you guys. Lord knows what you would come up with. I am using "Indian" on the other site, just because my family heritage is native american.

Spoke with Steve from SAW this morning. I came to the conclusion that the Subi Speedster, or tubaru as Vince calls it, is MY way to go. I took a good hard objective look at the rest of the forums on this and the Spyder websites. Most of the other forums refer to repairs and problems owners seem to be having. Since VW quit making the Beetle, the only new parts come from South of the border and not Germany. Even given benefit of the doubt, the German engineering and quality just isn't there anymore. OEM parts are nearly non-existant and don't even try to obtain or maintain an original 356 or it's engine. With the cost of parts and the value of the Euro dollar, real Germany parts are out of most people's price range. Let's face it, we own replicas or have built kits to look like the cars we love. What's under the skin and hoods of 98% of them will not be original, so what? We like the looks and love to drive them, my next need requires reliability. No more tinking, no more tuning Webers, no more snapped accelerator/clutch cables, no more keeping a drip pan under the engine or soiling someones drive way, no more oil splatters around the pullies, no idling at 1500 rpms to keep the car from shuttering like a drunken sailor. Please don't get me wrong, I loved all the above when I was younger but now I need the TLC and not my car.
I bought one and hope to pick it up on August 3rd.
I did a fair amount of research and came to the conclusion I would give the Suby a try out of the barn based upon;
- cost
- newer components (steering, frame, suspension, engine, brakes, battery location etc.)
- Hopefully less and easier maintence
- No worry for access to parts.
- Serviceability (new SUBY word)pretty much anywhere.
- Hopefully superior handling with the Mid engine placement.

I think that SAW has doen a pretty good job of re-thinking a classic to exact specs. I use the word hopefuly cause I have not driven it, seen it in person but talked to those who have and own.
More to come after the 3rd of August if all goes as planned!
