You can try www.specialty-sales.com (located in Pleasanton)they have one Intermecannica for about 17K, and 5 other in the 20K - 25K range. I believe the Intermecannica is an older pan based model. The others look like VS and at the prices they offer it might be best to go directly to VS or JPS. I have never delt with them nor am I affiliated with specialty-sales. I am just a lurker that's been dreaming of owning for a long long time....

In Davis California, I have a silver with red interior from Vintage Speedsters that has a 2110 with twin Dells. Moon hubs over 5 lug chrome wheels, less than 3,000 miles. Suspension enhancement and upgraded oil cooler with electric fan (central valley don't you know). Just had heart valve job and am thinking about parting with my baby. $22,000.

Hey Gary and Erik,
I'm not sure what Rick's problem is with Specialty Sales, but I've been dealing with them for the past 10 years and they are great. They have there own service shop (off site) and they know speedsters as well as anyone in the bay area. I've heard that they are actually building speedsters now.
Mike
Mike,
I think you just touched on the problem with Specialty in your comment of "I think they are building there own speedsters now". I have asked them and been told that they are building their own speedsters. Sad to say, this is totally false. Unless, ordering from Vintage is "building your own". In that case, I've built two of my own.

Troy and Theron,
Gentlemen, I'm not sure when the last time you were in cantact with Specialty Sales was, but I go there a lot and yes, they are building their own speedsters. I've personally met the guy who builds them and I've been in the shop where he works. He has about 20 years experience with building volkswagens and is very knowledgeable with air cooled technology. Also, most of the fiberglass bodies (exc tube chassis speedsters) come from Mexico so chances are, the bodies are coming from the same place regardless of who builds the car.
Specialty pricing seems to be right in line with Vintage.
Mike
Hello Troy And Theron,
I find all this discussion about us building Speedsters funny since I am the main builder for Specialty Service AKA Specialty Speedster. And if there is any doubt that I am doing so please contact me. I am proud of what I do and the cars I build. To have you
Theron,
I own Specialty Service where Cary works. Our parts come from any volkswagen parts house (Donsco, So Cal imports, Buggy House, to name a few) and our bodies come from Mexico. The Speedster specific parts like the tail lights, speedster emblems, gages, etc come with the kits we order. Please feel free to contact us any time as Cary has left our contact information. We don't have anything to hide and our shop is open for anyone to come and see. We would love to show you how it's done, but I'm sure you already know! Thanks for your time,
Mike
Cary,
I am on the telephone right now with my friend that has in his hand the VS brochure that the folks at specialty sales in pleasanton gave to him last week. You might just calm down and talk to the folks at specialty and not jump on us. No one on this site has any reason to lie. I just gave your number to my friend Mel and he says he will call you later today. Unfortunately your hours of operation are the same hours that I work so could only make it to see you on a saturday.

Anyway take some pics of your shop and your work and post them here. There are lots of us that may be interested.

Troy
Troy and Theron,
The reason Specialty Sales has brochures for VS is that they sell Vintage Speedsters. Some of them come directly from Kirk finished, and some are used owned by people in the Bay Area. Earlier I said that our bodies come from Mexico. I said that because that is where Kirk gets them and he sells the kits to us. Kirk sells a great product. We have also built a CMC kit for a customer and we have restored an Intermechanica speedster. Our speedster construction consists of the same as that of JPS or Vintage. We do not build the bodies ourselves, however we do build the chassis, the suspension, etc. and we build the car. Our cars include the trunk carpet kit and front disc brakes, as well as a tonneau cover (thus the difference in price) We have been in business for about a year. We welcome visitors to our shop in Livermore as well as any suggestions anyone may have. We're always looking for ways to improve our product! If Saturday is the only day that you can make it we might be able to work something out as I live nearby. We also service speedsters and we warranty our cars here. I will be happy to answer any other questions you may have. Talk to you soon! Pictures of our cars can be found on www.specialtyspeedsters.com
Mike
Theron and Troy,
I hope there will be no hard feeling between us. I was just trying to get
my point across. We work very hard to produce the best car we can. And I am
very proud of what I do. I think you would of felt the same way. Mike and I
wanted to make sure we didn't step on anyones toes (mainly Kirk) by giving
out specific info on where we get our bodies and parts. Do you think it is
that important where the kit comes from? The CMC we built was a mess. The
inner frame was no where near the quality of VS. We tried to deal with IM
but it was to dificult with them being in Canada. But I do think they make a good kit. We are looking
into fabricating our own roll up window system. Do you think that would go
over well? Or are people more into the traditional Speedtster look.
I look forward to meeting with you . We are moving to Pleasanton in a
month or so and Mike and I are talking about having a open house. We would
like to know if you would like to help with getting some people together. Or
is this not a good idea? Any way thanks for your time.
Respectfully, Cary

Cary,
No offense taken. It is just that you got caught in the middle of some folks that have dealt with specialty and have some pretty strong feelings about them. Living in pleasanton myself I would love to see your new place and attend an open house. I am sure that many others in the bay area would also attend. Keep us posted on your progress.
About roll-ups if you will read some of the posts here you will note that many would like that option.

One very important question: Will you sell direct to customers or only via specialty?

Troy
Troy,
We'll sell direct no problem. The reason we use Specialty Sales is that they have the resources and experience to market these cars worldwide. They also have a showroom and we don't have room to keep our completed cars around the shop. Anyway, we look forward to meeting you Troy. We'll be in touch.
Mike
Mike Barlow,
Just like to state that my previous post was regarding Specialty Sales & not your newly founded business.I didn't have a pleasant business transaction when they sold one of my cars & ended up ordering my Speedster (2001) directly form Kirk Duncan. One of my best decisions. Looking forward to visiting your shop, as I live fairly close.
Good luck with your venture.~Rick
