Yeah, there ain't no turbo there. You can get 240hp out of a naturally aspirated 2276 though, Jim; the combo would have to be built so it went to 7500 or so with power, but then it wouldn't be the docile, torquey watchwinder that we'd expect to be in it, and you'd spend almost as much time maintaining it as driving the thing, and to get the most out of it the transaxle would need close 3rd and 4th gears, and it wouldn't be much of a highway car any more because of those close gears....

And yeah, Stan, it must be trick!

If ultimate HP (not torque) is the goal, the general rule is you need around 2.2 CFM/HP. A straight section of pipe will flow around 115 CFM/in^2 so a 240 HP engine would likely have a single 2.5" exhaust or dual 1 7/8" exhaust after the header.

Pipe length determines which RPMs the exhaust helps or hinders engine output.

Longer pipes also produce lower notes. Pipe diameter can change how the exhaust sounds, but it doesn't really change the frequency of the note/resonance. Larger volume mufflers are better at reducing sound levels.

It's difficult to tell, but it looks to me like this car has a Tri-Mil Euro 2-tip  "hotdog" muffler (or the cheaper Empi version) which is ok to around 100 HP. Above that, it's a hinderance and should have a 4-1 header instead. There's no way you'd get 240 HP out of a hotdog muffler. Maybe they were using one of those phone apps to estimate HP and didn't enter the correct vehicle weight.
