I'm considering changing my 1 5/8" sidewinder style passenger side exit exhaust for a Vintage Speed 43 mm. or other brand Sebring style set up.

I've lowered the front approx. 2 1/4" and have adjustable spring plates for the rear.

Looking at my current exhaust, I don't think I have enough clearance to drop the rear and get the stance I want, plus I like the Sebring style exhaust.

Anybody running a similar set up to what I'm aiming for?

Did you have to order custom or go with off the shelf?

Is there an equal or better alternative?

Thanks in advance for help!!

Bob

So far only the front has been dropped. The car is on blocks while I flip the sway bar over as it was scraping on speed bumps. Also have some tire rub I need to figure out.

I 'll see if I have a pic of the front end dropped.

Also the car sits lower on the driver's side so the adjustable spring plates will let me level it.

Can't seem to find time to get everything done. I've got a bunch of projects besides the car and it's like herding cats to make progress.

I had a vintage Speed Sebring exhaust the one that is made to order with the larger tube size. They have you take measurements of your car that they specifically ask you for. I would say it will work because they will make it to fit using the lowered ride height of your choice. I wound up converting to suby power and I sold the nearly new exhaust to a fellow SOC member a couple years ago. I have a video with the Exhaust running as my 2376 engine was being broken in, see the attachment.

Wow, 2376cc that was a nice motor, but the torque band is much narrower with a Type-I engine,  compared to the Subie isn't it.

Panhandle Bob:  An alternative may be the Vintage Speed set up for lowered buses.  There are some good pictures on the VW Parts Aircooled site, in their kit car section.  Headers, muffler & tail pipe sit at same level as crankcase.

My car is lowered 1 1/2" all around and ground clearance over speed bumps & reasonably angled driveways is good.  I don't know what the Sebring set up sounds like compared to the lowered bus set up.

I have a Sidewinder passenger side set up like yours on my other car.  I like the Sidewinder exhaust note, but adjusting valve lash on cyl 1 & 2 is a PITA, in short the bloom is off the rose.

I getting ready to r/r the Sidewinder with a Vintage Speed set up.  The set up I have is the 4 runners into one big muffler, with the center exhaust exit.  It does not have the 2 small mufflers.

Ground clearance may be better with the Vintage Speed lowered bus than the Sebring set up.  I like Vintage Speed quality work, all hardware included & stainless steel construction.

The Sebring unit with the two small mufflers looks very cool.

@Panhandle Bob You probably already know that the drop-spindles and disc brake mods widens your front track by at least 3/4" per side. If the tire rubbing is noticed on  lock-to-lock turns, you may just need to adjust the turn stops.

Also, you will find the drop spindles will change your steering geometry (a little more understeer).

I think the Sebring exhaust will be a cool look and sound on your car! Look forward to seeing before & after pics of your car when you're done with your suspension/exhaust mods!
